Default Key Mechanism problem

hi all,

my car is 2 months old but i seem to have a problem with the keyhole mechanism.

when u turn off the car and before taking out the key, there will be a non-stop beep-beep sound, the sound is supposed to go off when u extract the key.

my problem is that when i take out the key, the beep-beep continues and when i close the door after getting out, the car wont lock.

i think there is some internal sensor/flap in the keyhole mechanism that senses the key is out thereby switching off the beep and thus allowing the car to be locked.

i cant send the car into the dealership as this is an intermittent problem. I get this like 30% of the time when i turn the car off.

anyone has this same problem? and is there a way to solve it permanently?

thanks
ffd

I had something similar happen once like the first or second week I had the car, but i just turned the key back to the first position and then back and it went away and hasn't done it ever again. I would defiantly be pissed if it happened a lot though. Have you tried taking it to the dealer? They may have run into someone else with a similar problem. Worth a try at least. Good luck man.

mine did that too, you have to tap the key around the keyhole until you hear the click. Sucks, I know.

Mine does the same thing. Thinking about going in to the dealer with the problem.

Very common problem. Happened to my brand new 2007 right when I took it home from the dealer. Check out the "Ask Honda" forum and you'll see many many members with this issue.

When you turn off the car, the mechanism doesn't fully "click" so it still thinks the key is in the ignition. That's why the beeping is stilll there (the door is open with the key in), and that's why you can't lock it (can't lock/unlock doors with key in).

the thread shamoo is referring to: My car thinks the key is still in ignition (s2ki.com)

my car has done it a few times, usually when it's hot out i've noticed.
