Last Thursday was driving from Savannah to Atlanta. I was behind pickup and line of traffic going 80 MPH. Saw pickup make sudden swerve then run over and throw up a large piece of 18 wheeler tire tread. It appeared to come straight at me hitting hood with tremendous thud and then bouncing off and over windshield just missing rear spoiler. After stopping to inspect damage I was sick. It looked as if the whole car would have to be repainted. Front spoiler has a crack and bumper is slightly deformed around headlight. Black tread marks covered the passenger side front bumper and some on hood. Also all the way down passenger side of car had black tread marks. The front bumper and passenger side mirror taking the hardest hits. Several people looked and some thought rubbing compound might remove most of the black, but the paint finish was probably damaged. I have 12 coats of Zaino on my S. So When I got to my destination decided to try washing (no scrubibng). Sprayed with 409 and let soak then scrubbed with HOT water and lots of Dawn. To my amassment all of it came off and my finish looks the same as before with all Zaino still intact (even after 409, hot water, Dawn, and sever elbow grease). I now belive that Zaino was instrumental in preserving my finish. UNBELIEVABLE!
So all of the black marks came right off? Thats impressive! I have heard that someone who had a rim bent from a bad pothole got the city to pay for it; I wonder if that would be a consideration here. Isn't it their responsibility to keep the roads clean of material like that? I'm not trying to be "sue happy" or place blame, I'm really just curious because I was surprised to hear that the pothole incident was taken care of.
Ohmigosh, what an experience that must have been. You should be extremely glad that you did not end up with black tire tread marks all over your scalp; those would not have come off quite so easily. You and your S2000 should live to drive many more miles together.
Wow, you're quite lucky. I had an encounter with an airborne piece of tread in my miata on my way to the airport, a week before I was going to trade it in on the S2000.
Cool story. I assume the crack and bumper deformation will be taken care of as well?
A little while ago I was carrying a can of black spray paint around the shop, and I dropped it when I stepped on something sharp. The can dropped and landed (to my horror) top side down, unleashing a fury of black spray paint covering the side of the car. Amazingly, the spray wiped right off, thanks to several coats of Zaino.

The cracked front spoiler will have to be replaced at some time, but will wait for now. The bumper is just barely noticeable and no one who looked hard and new what they were looking for could tell. The pictures do not accurately convey how bad the damage to the finish looked prewashing. The fact that logically a large solid object slamming into your car at 80 MPH just seems like it should cause severe damage. I can not tell you how bewildered and excited I was after washing.
