Default Help - Remove Rubber Marks

The story is -

Raining out here on my way home, and a truck infront me does a swerve and I see him run over a piece of 18-wheeler tire. The piece flies right into the front of my bumper, scrapes a part of the hood and then flies over me. Scared the crap out of me. I pulled over to survey the damage, and there's a slight warp in the bumper now (not THAT noticeable) but a HUGE almost tire mark on the front of my bumper.

How can I get this off? I'm posting before I've started anything, but I'm gonna go start soap and water right now.

It left scrapes and black lines on part of my hood. The front bumper is the worst with an obvious tire tread mark on it.

I need suggestions for removing this giant tread mark and the black lines on the hood - and I don't own a Porter Cable

Clay bar may help. I removed a similar mark from my back bumper that way.

A mild polish (Meguiar's) found at most local auto supply stores should remove it. Apply a protective coating after polishing.

Yeah, I've tried that... Wasn't too successful. I did get a lot after a very aggressive clay, a medium polish and a stronger carnuba. Not great though, and something that'll definitely be noticeable in the future.

after a track day, i was hanging out with a ferrari owner who was spraying some sort of chemical on the black tire marks on his hood and easily wiping them away. i wish i knew what the chemical was. it was like magic. so at least we know something like that exists.

Try WD-40 or as a last resort Mr Clean Magic eraser.

I got the majority off. The only problem now is the hood is dented ever so slightly (no one but an S owner could tell, but it really bothers me) and the bumper has deep gashes in it. I guess it's time to suck it up and get a new bumper...
