I thought this would be a good topic for those who are interested in gears. Post up your thoughts and opinions and recommendations. Give us general info on what supporting mods you think would accommodate the gears. I'll post my experience in a couple days.

Amazing how no one wants to chime in on one of the most important aspects of NA tuning especially for what our cars are made for. Maybe I should start a thread on AEM Cold air intakes

the s2ooo was boring to drive (no acceleration) until i put in the 4.77s (built by s2kpuddydad housed in a comptech reinforced housing). for performance mods, i only have a HFC, header, and intake. voodoo shift knob if you want to count that too. if i stay NA, the last mod for me would be a neo or some sort of piggy back...

i think the biggest mistake a lot of us have are heavy rims. everybody loves to have damn 18s but they are killing performance tremendously. i bought my s2ooo with 18s. i throw the oem rims on once in a while for what seems like an extra 10 whp. i'd like to get a new set of rims but i already have too many rims around as is...

huge difference in performance. Accelerates so much faster and has pep pretty much in any gear. Best bang for the buck IMO.

 

Ive been doing research on gears since I got my S. Ive decided that when the time comes Im going 4.77s. From my understanding theyre best suited for N/A setups and a bit much for AP2s


*Just to clarify- I not saying theyre the best option for N/A vehicles. I mean theyre better suited for N/A as to Boosted vehicles*

 

4.57 cryotreated w/ comptech reinforced diff. Loved them when I was supercharged and will love them NA

 

I'm currently running Puddymod J's 4.3 rear diff with AP2 trannsmission in my AP1.

Even though my car isn't N/A, but for around town driving, I'm pretty much never in boost, and the gears has been great. I've seen a lot of people say that gears aren't noticeable unless you have 4.77's, but I definitely notice it at 4.3. These gears helps my car get into Vtec/Boost quicker and with less effort. It actually makes my around town driving much more enjoyable.

With the longer 5th and 6th from the AP2 tranny, my highway driving is still very pleasant. Just touching 4K rpm going about 70mph in 6th gear.

Does anyone still have that youtube link to the video of the MCR S2000 with the J's 4.3 running AP2 and AP1's? I can't find it, its one of my favorite video's.

 

I am currently running Richmond 4.57 gears in a diff built by s2kpuddydad housed in a comptech reinforced housing. A little whine is noticeable, but Ben said it is going to have some whine to it. I LOVE THEM! S2000's without gears fall behind quick in a drag...For supporting mods, I dont have any other drivetrain mods.
