Default Engine Transplant 2007 for 2000 Car!

Hi Guys,

I have a problem. To cut a long story short, my engine blew up in my MY00 s2000. I managed to track down a 2007 engine with 6k on it. The engine arrived and looks clean. I was advised that the only difference was the drive by wire and the inlet manifold, which i plan to switch with my original and looks to be an easy swap.

The Problem?

We just noticed that there is only one engine sensor on the 2007 valve cover. The 2000 engine has 2. We had to lift the valve cover to see what differences lurk benieth. It would appear that the only visible difference are the timing sensor plate/disks that reside on the end of each cam. We have checked and these are interchangeable and therefore we could switch them and also the valve cover on the new engine to the old cover to match so that the original loom will plug in with no problems. Does anyone know if this would work?? Or if we are likeley to encounter any more problems?

Please, no guessing! I can't afford to fit the engine and have problems with it running.

I would really appreciate any help or if someone could point me in the direction of someone who may know.

The cam sensors, crank sensor, reluctor plates are different on the 06 and later engines.

The bigger problem is the 06 and later cylinder head doesn't have air injection ports machined and there is no easy way to convert it back to a 00-05 configuration.

No ports = permanent CEL for air injection system malfunction.

Go find a 00-05 engine.

Don't forget that in Europe the F20C2 is the only engine used in the S2000.
Do the MY06 and later F20's also have the different cylinder head, IOW no air injection ports?
Just asking.

If it's a DBW engine the air injection ports "should" be unmachined.

Last pics I saw of a euro DBW car it didn't have the air injection control valve.

Damn,
We have now changed the crank senso and pulser and the can pulsers and sensors and we were ready to fit... i hadn't checked this thread and was unaware of the problems you have mentioned. Going to check the engine out tomorrow to take a look at this. I really hope this isn't the case becuase it means

Slows2k,
Will the engine run ok, and what does "permanent CEL for air injection system malfunction" entail... is it just a warning light or a bigger problem?

on the older s2k's, that air injection system pumps air to the exhaust, burning up unburned fuel i believe.. This happens during start up, probably the first 3 or so minutes where your engine might be too cold to burn all thefuel.. (its for pollution purpose)..

If you don't have that on your new engine, and your ecu is looking for all those pumps, etc.. then you'll get that code.. Maybe try to get the ecu from the same car u got the engine from too?

Ok, thanks.

Well i guess if i change the ecu it will mean switching everything over to DBW wouldn't it?

I guess the easiest thing to do at a later date would be to switch back to my old cylinder head? But probably leave that until the summer when i have some time.

My priority really is getting the car up and running.
