Default Noob needing help with stereo problem!

Hi all! I've only been an s2000 owner for a few days now; I bought the car used, but in great condition. There's only one problem; the stereo will not play!

The previous owner installed an aftermarket head unit and as far as I can tell, just factory speakers. The head unit itself works, power comes on and all. I can change the audio settings and pop in a cd, only no sound comes out of the speakers(NONE of the speakers are playing sound). The speakers made a popping/crackling sound when I picked the car up, but has not made the sound since.

What could it be?

This is a long shot... but I am gonna throw this out there...

Perhaps he had a amp installed in the car somewhere that fed the door speakers. Perhaps the amp was removed 10 min before you showed up to buy it???

Any power cables attached to the battery under the hood?

I even reset the head unit and all of the settings are at default. When I turn the volume up, the speakers have a very audible buzzing that gets louder. I checked the wiring and it all matches up. Everything has power and seems to work, yet no sound. I don't get it.

I don't think the HU would work at all then. I have no idea.

Got it. The driver side lower speaker was mounted on with a mdf bracket that had broken in half. Basically, the speaker shorted out and apparently the head unit to short as well.
