Oh joy! At long last I have a remote boot release

Some of you will know that many of the earlier cars did not have the Honda UK alarm connected into the boot release solenoid (it was an option apparently). As I use my car every day and need to get my briefcase in and out of the boot every morning and evening, I found this to be a real PITA. In the winter especially, there is a very real danger of accidentally scratching the area around the boot lock when trying to unlock the boot with the key in the dark.

So, yesterday, my dealer fitted the required part and now I have a remote boot release that works perfectly. Press the concave dimple on the remote.... indicators give one long flash and car unlocks. As soon as the lights go out, press dimple again.... indicators flash twice and boot opens.

I tried it about twenty times and it worked perfectly every single time. I was like Homer Simpson last night.... "Boot lock opens, boot lock shuts. Boot lock opens, boot lock shuts"

Pete

PS
The only downside is that I can't use it to open the boot when the car is already unlocked; I have to lock the car, then unlock it again, then release the boot. Is this normal for everyone else?

Yes.

In fact, if you're doing better than me. If have to time it just right after the car first unlocks, or it doesn't work. I reckon on maybe 50%. More like "Boot lock opens, boot lock shuts. Boot lock doh!"

yes Pete....

when I first tried it, it always worked...my timings were brill. Now its a 50-50 affair. So in the end I sometimes give up and use the keys......

Yep, I found that too, Brian. It was only after I discovered that I had to actually watch the indicator lights and press again the instant the lights went out that it worked perfectly each and every time.

That I find a real PITA - but not enough to use the key

Even watching the indicators, I'm still 50/50.

With very few exceptions, I find it only works when I have recently set the alarm. If the alarm has been set for more than a couple of hours, then the boot release generally doesn't work.
Have now added a small, flat LED torch to my keyring, so that I can find the boot key hole in the dark.

Pete, did you have to pay for the modification?
