Default 2.0L or 2.2L? Looking to purchase

Hello,

I am a newcomer and this is my first post. I am looking to purchase a S2000 within the next couple of months and I was wondering what people thought about the AP2 2.2L or if I should stick with the older 2.0 L? Let me know Thanks

Your best bet would be to start doing a search on this site. It has been beat to death MANY times.

The 2.0 has a 9000RPM redline, can you imagine It has won a massive amount of awards, being the standard production engine with the most NA HP/liter in the world, being able to rev the highest of a series production 4 stroke engine etc... Imagine how few people in the world daily can touch 9 grand!?

The 2.2 has a redline of 1000RPM less approximally but has a bit more torque. But on a daily basis, they perform equally great.

RJ, if you have the chance, try to test drive both. Frankly, you can't go wrong either way. The switchover (in North America) came with the 2004 model year.

What a timely thread! I was just getting ready to post the exact same thing. I'll do some searches comparing pre and post '04 models. I've just started researching the car after having one in our shop last week. (I work at a large collision repair shop.)

Early reading has me leaning toward an '04 due to the engine change and transmission improvement, but it seems the earlier models are as much (or more) fun to drive.

Good luck with your buying.
