2002 vs 2004: The driving experience difference?
Hi guys,
I am looking to purchase a used S2000 and want to get your feedback on the primary differences in handling and driving characteristics between say a 2002 and a 2004.
I know the main things that were changed in 2004, included the 2.2 liter motor, lower redline, cosmetic changes to the bumpers, 17" wheels and slight suspension calibrations. Were there any interior changes?
How do all these affect how the car drives in the real world and the racetrack? The S2000 will be used primarily for track events, but also want to cruise around town with the top down occassionally in it once as well. Which better for the track suspension wise even though I will eventually change that out with an aftermarket setup?
The only cosmetic mods I plan are 18" BBS LM's, coilover suspension and a aggressive front spoiler. I have seen pics of a black s2000 and a silver one that were lowered with LMs and a front spoiler and they looked hot.
Thanks a lot.
Tony

The 04's got the suspension reworked and were softer in the back. The previous cars showed a lot of drivers where their talent ended and they would leave the outside of a turn backwards. 04+ is a much safer ride if you are not a high caliber driver(and i wouldnt consider myself to be one).
Are there other notable changes in 2004?
Also, is the only major change between 2000 and 2003 the glass rear window in 2002? WHat other changes took place during the AP1 model?
Is there a section on this forum that details these changes?
Thanks for all the help.

I posted up a huge comparison between my '01 and '04 almost two years ago. Basically, I like the '04 better in virtually every conceivable way.
About the only thing I miss about the '01 was the way the steering wheel was perforated.
