Go with the 2005 MY if you prefer the conventional throttle cable over DBW and the compatibility with most AP1 aftermarket performance mods.

Go with the 2006 MY if you prefer the most updated car, don't mind DBW throttle, drive with VSA with a peace of mind, have the potential for Hondata to do great things with the programmable ECU, and don't mind the fact that most current aftermarket intakes, exhaust/header systems, and superchargers/turbochargers don't fit your car.
I really don't mind the Drive by Wire at all. I've heard and read that it responds just as well as the cable throttle. I'm just worried about the after-market for the car. Like you said, as of now there are really no performance mods for the car that are targeted for the 2006 model and is a pain in the a$$ to get them to fit, but I'm pretty sure that these companies will come up with something to keep their business flowing. The question is how long?... lol.

As far as the ECU, I'm really not a fan of Hondata. I'm very much into the AEM EMS. It is expensive, but I'm willing to dish out the money for what I think, IMO, is the best ECU out for the S2K.

I guess I'll just have to take both models out and see which I like better. If I get offered a good price for a 2005, I might have to hop on it.

Thanks everyone for your input. Any other input is welcome.

Thanks,
Andre

maybe never? Only about 2500 06s were produced this year (someone posted a stat here); not much demand for them. It is close of the end of their life cycle, and it is quite possible that none of the performance manufacturers can make a business case to support the 06's. After all, they are in it for the money, right?

Something to think about.

Uh, source?

Honda sold 835 S2000s year-to-date for 2006 in the US (as of end of month February, so two month's sales), which is roughly the same as year to date for 2005 (863). That sort of sales data for the winter months wouldn't suggest Honda is only planning to sell 2500 for the year.

Would the 06 S2k have lower insurance rates because it has the stability and traction control?

Hmmm... damn, I'm kind of torn right now between them. This is rough... lol. I really don't think companies would just let the market for the S2K die out. I'm sure they think that there are a lot of people out there with AP1's that would probably trade in for a newer model. I guess we'll just have to see how everything goes.

Having traction control is reason enough for me not to buy a car....it interferes with the drive...especially since the s2000 is meant to be fun.......even with the ability to switch it off it just doesnt sound like a fun car to me anymore.....like someone previously stated, its obvious its at the end of its life....go for the 2005, enjoy modding and dont worry about insurance rates....just pretend you live in 2005....on top of that, honda seems to be toning down the car with softer suspentions and so on....the older, the better(in this case).....if you could get a 2000 model that would be perfect......just my 2 cents....

I have an 06.
Pro 06:
-VSA,
- 12 year corrosion warranty instead of 6,
- better leather quality (thicker) although I currently have an issue with the driver seat shoulder part
better paint quality (so I am told).
Contra: I like the 05 seats better and also the leather is much smoother.

Well lets see...I've wanted the s2k for about 4-5 years and someone couldn't have totaled my truck at a better time for me. I am so glad I got the MY05 compared to the 06, but its just personal preference. VSA would be nice on days when its rainy, but there are too many negatives that outweigh it for me.

I really disliked the wheels, new leather texture and headrest design, steering wheel design, DBW, oh and that useless tray on the dash now. Take a look at both side by side and drive them both before you decide to make your own personal preference though. After all any s2k is better than not having one!
