2007 GPW
if carfax is ok i'd feel a little better about it. get it inspected on a lift by someone and that should be the end of any major worries you have. nothing wrong w/the mileage, i know ppl that drove a ridiculous amt in their S's.
Get it professionally inspected to make sure of no major damage. They can tell you how deep the paint is as well to see if there was any refinishing on more than just the bumper.
I would also get a quote from a painless dent repair specialist to see how much those dents will set you back.
I picked up my 05 GPW from the original owner with 20k for 15.5 out the door...IN SOCAL.
Aside from the minor swirls and $150 worth of door dings, it was MINT!

If the hood, fenders, quarter panels, doors, and trunk lid VIN's all match then you're probably fine. If the car was in a serious front end accident, the hood would have been damaged and been replaced as well.
Don't put too much faith in carfax. I had a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant that was in an accident and was $500 short of being totaled (accident report was filed with police, insurance company notified, etc). I ended up just taking the money from the insurance company and I sold the car as is. I later found out the car had been repaired and at the time I had an unlimited carfax (this was about a year later) and was curious so I ran the VIN. Guess what, carfax came up clean with no accident history.

everything seems fairly minor in my opinion...if the vin on the front bumper doesn't it match the rest of the car then it's probably been replaced, which isn't a big deal (as long as the integrity of the car frame is intact then don't worry about it...typically front and rear bumper issues aren't too bad as they can be easily replaced)
check the paint on the fenders, doors, and panels to be sure that nothing has been repainted...you should be able to eye it by looking close in the light (if it's repainted, the paint is a little grainy looking and the feel is a little different). if it has been repainted it's probably a tell that the car's been in an accident...(bumpers are again no biggie).
dings and scratches normally come with used cars so don't worry about it
ap2v1s are arguably the most popular/best looking oem rims on the market. doesn't hurt to ask why the car has it...but it's not really a big deal
carfax it..ask how many previous owners..ask if it's been tracked/if the high mileage is due to daily commuter use
the current mods do not make the car more expensive, as everything is basically stock.
see if there is any room for price negotiation..18k is high IMO due to the higher mileage
the most important things are making sure the car is mechanically sound/drives right/no odd noises or vibrations/etc.

Okay guys I purchased the s2k today. I actually never have personally driven a s2k myself until the test drive a couple days ago (with top up). When I drove the car home today I put the top down and cruised. What a thrill, what a joy! I had a huge smile on my face and i probably looked like an idiot; I didn't have a care in the world. =)
Well I need to clean her up a bit to officially introduce myself. Stay tuned
