I think the comparison is basically to let us know what the owner is into or searching for in aspects of power, handling, etc.

Reading comprehension isnt at the top of some's list.

Sounds like you REALLY want another Z car. Just my opinion though. Dont ever settle, its not the right thing to do.

i didn't start this thread to compare Z's and S2ks and which ones are better.. the fact is that i can pick up a decent 00-01 s2k for 8k and a 350z is closer to 11k.. (look on autotrader)

The 3k dollar difference is enough to keep me interested in the s2000..iI DO LIKE THEM VERY MUCH ..and its not like i am buying a car to keep forever.. the option to sell it is always an option.. Im sorry if you guys took it the wrong way as if i was "settling" but thats not how i intended it to sound.. Both cars are very good and very nice cars.. the fact of the matter at hand is that i simply do not have enough money for another 350z and i am very much interested in purchasing an s2k

When i sell my rx7 shell and all of its parts i will be wanting to get another car very soon and i may have close to about 8k dollars .. i don't feel like waiting around for a year and driving my integra for a full nother year just to be able to get a Z.. id rather get an s2k and have fun with it.. and if i later decide to keep it or sell it i will do so just as i did with my 350z.. who knows i may end up keeping it.. like i said i loved it when i drove my friends ap1

Lets not forget i am also a long time honda owner as well

pretty much the only thing i dislike about the s2k over the Z is the very weak offsets.. i like to have the look of a fat tir and a nice lip in the rear.. can anybody help me out with some pictures??.. lack of torque doesn't really bother me its not a factor.. I think the s2k interior has more of a cool cockpit feel to it as well which i love.. and I really like the idea of my first convertible

now that we have that issue at hand sorted out i would love some things i should be looking out for when i go to purchase one

To echo and augment some of the earlier replies.... the S is truly a drivers vehicle. You won't find a better shifter/clutch combo in car-dom, and the steering is so sweet you will smile every time you take it round a curve. Every minute I'm in the S, I have a smile on my face, and I sigh with pleasure; every minute I'm out of it, I'm longing to be in it! Although a lot of people think its underpowered, there's alot of torque per pound of weight - its no slouch! The designer aimed for it to "stir one's soul", and it sure does mine.
The 350Z is a nice car, very enjoyable to drive. It has a lot of power. My only issue with it is that it feels heavy when driving it. If you go for the S, get ready for the lightest feeling piece of machinery there is.

^^ Yes that was my impression when i first stepped foot into my first s2k test drive.. how amazingly tight the steering was and so nimble around the corners.. it was very fun!!.. the torque is plenty to drive around town in high gears for me trust me..
Im coming from a rx7 (13b) lol

I would second the opinion that with some time and searching you can find a low mileage, nearly new S2000 for a decent price.

I would look for adult ownership / one owner / service records / no mods / all the common stuff.

I wouldn't go for the oldest least-expensive one you can find unless you want to wrench it, mod it, etc.

Sad to see her go.. But its time to move on and get something reliable again..

Can't wait to find the perfect S2k.. I'll found great info and things to look out for on the site and from a help of a couple friends who also have s2ks.. So Im pretty prepared!

I guess the 350Z is the S2000's fatter, uglier cousin.
That also works out and keeps getting more powerful. In fact, now Cousin Z is known as "370Z."

Anyway, and welcome to S2Ki, OP.

i had the base 2004 z33, sold at 32k miles. i love it, and shouldn't have sold it. so i just bought a 2005 s2000 a week ago. i am falling in love with this, also. to quickly compare,
the z is more refined, and feels more solid/quiet on bumpy roads. by contrast, the s2000 feels more raw: more engine noise, road noise, the sound in the higher revs, lighter and hence "more tossable" etc. i thought the throws in the z were short, the s2000 is even shorter! i like it. obviously the z has more torque. on sunny days, with the top down, the s2000 is more fun. i thought the z had little cargo room, (2 golf bags), the s2000 has even less (1 golf bag). only 2 speakers in the s2000 (needs upgrade).
overall, straight line, the z is better, but overall driving around town, i give the s2000 the slight edge.

Things to make the S a better daily driver:
1)Aftermarket Headunit asap. The stock one is garbage and doesn't have iPod integration.
2) S-pods. Speakers in the roll-hoop. Do a search on them.

With your fav music blasting behind your head you won't care about road or wind noises

Also, I thought it was funny that you think the Z has more room. I'm able to pack ALOT of stuff in the S....I felt that the luggage part of the Z car was way too shallow.
