Annnnd I'm back
Hey dudes. I'm back. I missed my S2000 after I sold it five years ago so now it looks like I'm getting back into one. I had an old username on this site but I decided not to resurrect it as I was kind of an ass back then. (In all fairness, I was coming from the DSM world to the S2000 world, pretty much the exact opposite ends of the spectrum.)
Anyway, I sold the S2000 to save some cash. Ended up getting a 400 hp civic eg hatch that I never drove because it had no AC and I was worried it would leave me stranded somewhere. That car was definitely a mean sleeper, but it also wasn't anything other than a seat, some wheels, and an engine.
After I sold the hatch, I bought an E46 M3. This is the car I currently have. It's a great car, but maintenance is killing me. The VANOS went bad and that was $3,000 to fix. That's not a new engine, that's not a rebuild on an engine, that's just a part that attaches to the engine. I recently took the car in to have the brakes looked at. New pads and rotors all around with an oil and rear-diff fluid change was going to be another $2,600. Over six grand in maintenance in a little over a year and a half is not really what I signed up for, so I'm selling it.
Once I decided to get rid of the M, I had to decide what to replace it with. It was either going to be a C5, and Evo, or another S2000 (all german cars were ruled out due to maintenance costs.) I've driven all three of those cars and the S2000 was the one I loved the most. Everything about the car's performance is perfect... except for one thing: Not enough power!
I've always been a fan of turbos, and when I had my old S2000 all I could think about was how awesome it would be with a turbo. Back then there were very few turbo kits available and tuners were just starting push the limits. If you would have told me back then that people would be running 14psi on stock compression with pump gas daily, I would have called you an idiot.
But, It looks like there are some great kits out there now. Mase's kit seems to offer a ton of bolt-on power with no sacrifices. After looking it over and reading everyone's experiences with it and Mase, I decided it was time for a turbo S2000.
Now I've just got to sell/trade the M3 and find a good starting S2000! I'd really like to find a low mileage GPW AP1 with red/black interior, but that's proving just about impossible. I'm on the fence about AP1 vs AP2. I have no problem with revving an engine to get more power, and I really loved my 2000 AP1, so I guess I'll have to drive an AP2 to see if it's really that much different.
Anyway, sorry for writing a novel. Moral of the story, I missed my S, and now it's time to buy another one and boost it!

Welcome back! Glad to see you wanting back into the s2000 scene. I would definetly test drive both an ap1 (just to refresh your memory of how it is) and then test drive an ap2 to see which one you like better. Most people with ap1's will say get an ap1, and same with the ap2. It all depends on what you prefer though. Also an ap2 does have a little bit more torque than an ap1, but it's not a huge difference. A race between the 2 would be a drivers race, neither are really faster or slower.
I prefer to rev to 9k and have the true sports car feel so got an ap1, but I have all the ap2 body conversions done (bumpers, headlights, taillights, ect.. so I have the best of both worlds.
Let us know what decision you make!
