here's the recap:

had an '02 suzuka blue S2000 that i absolutely loved and planned to drive forever. i put a lot of work and a lot of money into it and enjoyed the hell out of it. the main bearings blew about two years ago. see "oil light of death" thread for the story. i cried. was not in a position to bring the car back to life so ended up selling it for $6k to someone who rebuilt it and flipped it.



started driving this:

but all i could think about was getting another S2000. i kept my eye on the market constantly, i wanted a low mileage '02 or '03 that i could have a new start with. some good ones popped up here and there but never the right one for me. then just recently it happened.... i found a unicorn! called the guy immediately and scheduled a 8am test drive on a saturday so i could be the first one to see it. when he opened the garage and i saw that the car was parked on white carpet i knew this was the one.



yup, an '02 new formula red with OEM hardtop and only 14,750 miles. the guy custom ordered it from a honda dealership and was the only owner. as he pulled it out of the garage he mentioned that he "doesn't like the car to see ultraviolet light." that's the kind of guy i want to buy a car from! this pristine example was 100% stock down to the original tires. cool? yes. dangerous? yes.

i struck a deal with the man and it was clear that he was a little reluctant to see the car go. he was retired, barely drove the car, and had been thinking about selling it for the last couple years.

anyway, patience paid off and i was able to find an S2000 that i can drive until the day i keel over!

yeah, i plan to do all the fluids from top to bottom next week. only thing the previous owner did was change the oil every 3k miles with full synthetic.
which means all other fluids are 13 years old...

just got the car back from the shop.

oil change, 5w30 synthetic.
brake fluid flush. sticking with dot 3 for now until i get into tracking the car again.
coolant flush.
clutch fluid flush.
transmission fluid flush, motul 300.
valve adjustment and new valve cover gasket.

my mechanic said the differential fluid should be fine for now, will save that one for later. he also said the rest of the car looks great.
car is purring like a kitten right now. dropped $478 but the preventative maintenance is a good investment.

 

Surprised he the mechanic said that. Out of all the fluids I would say the differential is the easiest to change. If I were you I would get it done. That way you know 100% that your new car has all new fluids.
