my mechanic said it nearly lasts forever(time wise, not mileage). he does track builds for miatas and S2000s so i don't think he's too full of shit!
open to debate though...

You need a new mechanic. Use Themikewoo's link, it's the best thing in the world! I spent about $460 on all those fluids you had done (including diff.) and bought 2 cases of mobile 1 synth. (sale) AND all the tools needed (floor jack, jack stands, oil catch pan, rubber mallet, etc.)
If you simply don't have the time, that's understandable, but use his link, it's freaking amazing!

Oh, I've never changed oil, or a tire in my life (sad to say). DIY, it's easy as shit

OH AGAIN! Thanks Themikewoo!!! That list you compiled is amazing! Great confidence builder

The diff and tranny fluids are completely closed systems. They don't get dirty and contaminated like motor oil, they just wear out from use. I suppose the oil is fine assuming that diff oil can last along time (I beleive it can). Still, I would change it, very easy to do

Soley looking at the Maintenance Schedule it does say that the differential fluid should last for 30,000 miles BUT the change interval is every year. Me personally I have decided to follow some of the more educated people on this forum and change mine on a 3 year cycle. Also the fluid in the differential is 13 years old like you stated in a previous post.

Thank you so much for the kind and flattering words. I made that thread for myself and couldn't believe how many people it has helped. It is why I check this community on a regular basis.

first couple mods.

TWM leopard A6 shift knob. big, round, heavy and about 1/2" shorter than stock. this knob is a carry over from my last few cars. love it.
also adjusted the shifter boot to be a little shorter.

got some basic wheels to start. enkei kojin. 17x8 +45 and 17x9 +45. wrapped in dunlop direzza ZII. 225/45 and 245/40. great tires. ran the previous generation before and these ones seem just as good. put some black mcgard lug nuts on there. had a few sets of these before as well, pretty much bullet proof.

couldn't get ahold of any kodokan seat locks so i tried the guerilla cap locks that some people have recommended. the bolts themselves seem ok but the stupid key stripped out after i installed the second bolt. it's a metal key but it's molded into a cheapo plastic handle. poor design.

I thought I read that the Guerilla Cap Locks weren't strong enough and would shear easily in the event of an accident; again not saying it's these specific locks but you should definitely check this out!

yeah, some people were speculating about that. not sure if anyone has first hand experience with it. the bolts are obviously the same diameter as OEM but probably not the same composite. i just needed a stop-gap in the short term since i park on the street for the moment.

Looks good! How do you like that shift knob? I was interested in that giant gold one they offered but the company never replied to my email...

shifter knob has a lot to do with personal preference but i love the A6. it's heavy at 485 grams(over a pound!). it also has a neck on it so my finger tips don't touch the shifter boot. i like the spherical shape because i feel like i get a good grip on the knob no matter where my hand lands on it. comes in a variety of colors and you can get adapter sleeves for the threads so that it will fit almost any car. as mentioned, i've had it on a couple different cars....

bought it years ago. i'm sure someone still carries it. you emailed TWM directly?
