Default Base vs Roadster

Hey Guys. Not an owner yet but have been doing alot of searching into and about my future new toy. I am looking into every different option for a small convertible sports car and always come back to the S2000, and finally have decided, This is the One! Now I am deciding what year I want, AP1 or AP2, what mileage Im willing to start at, etc. The one thing that keeps coming up and I havent been able to find is the difference between Base and Roadster. I could be missing the threads but I have run a search and not having any luck.

not sure what you mean. There's an S2000 and a CR model if thats what you mean.

'00-'03 AP1 2.0 L
'04-'05 AP2 2.2 L
'06-'09 AP2 2.2 L Drive By Wire (DBW)
'08-'09 AP2 2.2 L CR model some with a/c and radio and some without. Interior is different and comes with hardtop, stiffer suspension, wider rear tires, wing, front lip, etc.

search on the forum and itll help you decide which one you want to purchase. Theres a thread with all the differences between the years, and what to consider when buying per model year. Good Luck and i think you made the right choice in choosing to buy an S2K

I think Matt thought there was a base coupe model? and the convertible. Either way there is just one option, a convertible. You could also add an OEM hard top or aftermarket one. Tell us your price range and we tell you what you could get in stock form b/c that would be most useful.

Thanks for your quick response. I'm ok on the ap1, ap2. One of the sites I'm searching is cargurus.com. If you do a search on the s2000, they are listed as base or roadster. It might just be drop down menu that has to be chosen but doesn't pertain to this car.

Yeah, the only other trim level offered on this car besides "base" was the CR.

In my opinion, there aren't really enough differences between the AP1 and AP2 models to really make one significantly better than the other. AP2's are all around a little more refined, and have an earlier/flatter torque curve due to the added displacement, but AP1's still have plenty of punch

The only thing I wish my AP1 had was a glass rear window. 99-01 AP1's used a plastic rear on the Soft Top, and 02-03 AP1's (and all AP2 models) use glass.

Just look for a well-maintained car with a reasonable price tag and number of miles

I'm also in the market for an s2k and have been seeing some prices all across the board. What I'm looking for is:

06+
60k miles or less
Non-red,suzuka
Has to be in immaculate shape.

When searching all the pricing sites like Truecar, KBB Blackbook, Nada guides, etc. They all put the car around 19-21k, but most near me are around 24+ or are really high mileage and way below that price.

Realistically, what should I be paying? I currently have an '13 FR-S that I'm trading/selling, and am looking at an S that is relatively close to me (there's not many in my area for sale) but it looks to have an HKS single and PWDJDM intake. It's an 06 with 57k miles listed at $24k.

Take your time on buying an S2000. You don't want a POS and consider looking outside your area. One of the gals on here flew across the country to get her perfect S. Either way. Somewhere around 20K for that year and mileage is good. Might be worth the savings in price for a short trip to pick up the car you want. GLHF

I'm not apposed to flying to adjacent states (I'm in Florida) and driving it home,it would just be easier if it were more local for obvious reasons as well as potentially trading in of my car. Just trying to get a baseline of what price I should truly be looking for. You say 20k?

Prices will vary. When Carmax and Sussex Honda post prices for S2000's with less than 30k miles in the $27-$29k range it inflates the values. If you want a good price on the car you will most certainly need to purchase Private Party. I paid on the high end for my car but i wanted GPW which in itself carries a premium price tag. On top of that it had 19k miles and overall above average. Some driver seat wear and needed a nice cleaning and fluid change. I paid $26k and in reality should have paid around $23-$24k. But its what i wanted and im happy. Thats the key. Also, i looked for about 10-12months before i made my decision. so my advice would be take your time, get what you want, dont settle for something just becuase its cheaper. You wana love the car. Not just like it.

GET THE COLOR COMBO YOU WANT OR YOULL HATE YOURSELF FOR RUSHING!!!

06+ less than 60k in mint condition i would expect anywhere from $20-$25k depending on OEM parts (lip kit, hardtop, etc.) single owner and clean title.
