Just bought into the club (a late '01, Silverstone, 28,400 miles $18,300, Honda certified).
Want to know what mods, cosmetic and/or mechanical you old timers have done and feel like you just can't live without.
Uh, and in the 2 or 3-figure $ range for each, won't be doing forced induction etc.

 

all depends on what you want to do with your car... if your going for looks, drag, road race, car shows, etc...

 

Street only. reliability paramount. want to keep a discreet look, no graphics, wings, nothing that would boost weight or drag noticeably with no return on performance.

 

Convex drivers mirror to get rid of the blind spot and a voodoo countersunk shift knob to shorten the throw and fit the hand better.

 

i would do a test pipe.. cheap easy and free's up alot of power (well for a s2k anyway)
or a nice set of coils.
exhaust also add's some hp's and if single losses acouple pounds aswell.
Or just a intake to hear that thing hit vtec

You'll see a lot of good info here. I can't say what's the best since I don't have any mods yet.

I've had my car stock for 3 years. But I am going to get the following mods as my first:

K&N intake
4.56 gears (to replace the stock 4.1s)
yellowbox (speedo correction for the gears)

You may ask why the gears since that's not a flashy thing to brag about. But from what I hear the S2000 is pretty much near max straight out of the box. The gears make it accelerate easier. It's like the S2000 has very little TQ so the gears allow it to use the TQ better. Said to be one of the best mods for the S2000.

Also set aside some money for tires, they don't last long and a good contact patch is more important than any mod IMO. Don't skimp or settle for all season tires.

 

Go gas station and get premium gas j/k

Get a better feel steering wheel and a shiftknob. You have to make your car more enhoyable to drive. Next step will be suspension and exhaust, you might want better control of the car and a little bit more power and sound.

 

1. Time behind the wheel, be patient.

2. X-Brace to smooth out the choppy roads.

3. More patience.

4. Major Havoc headrest blockers, cut down wind/cabin noise.

5. Auto-X or Track day to really find YOUR limits, since they will be found before the CARS limits.

Take your time learning the car's handling characteristics. If your not careful, it can bite you.

For looks I would go with some some JDM headlight diffusors, they are relatively cheap and make an AP1 look 1000x better imo. My next mod would probably be a set of coilovers. Have fun with your new car

 

A good headunit/radio is a good choice, the standard one on earlier models is pants and you can get a connector lead to use the steering wheel controls :thukbup:

One free mod though that is a must is to get the lid off the airbox and listen the vtec in all its glory then you really will want a proper induction kit!!
