We have a first year first generation Miata, and a first year first generation S2000.

Comparing the performance is like comparing a Piper Cub to an F-15.

I have an AP1/my2002. I wouldnt buy any other year. I have almost 93k on the odometer, and it still runs great. The only thing I like about the AP2's are the lights and front bumper, and I like the wheels on the '07.

It's all a matter of preference. Sebring is also my fave color on these and I believe it was only on 02-05 models. Never driven an AP2 (yet).

Where are you located?

Good luck & happy hunting

so i am hearing 02/03 are generally speaking the favorites here. which is better in terms of engine, transmission, and exhaust modification (number of parts available, horsepower and torque gains, etc.), the 2.0 or 2.2?

also, for those of you who own one already, is living with a modified s2k on a daily basis a big problem? I am referring mostly to suspension modification which affect the ride quality.
nope you just have to get used to it and make sure its what you want or get an adj. set up.

mine is dropped pretty low the only issue i have is that i have to worry about dips, pot holes ect but after having it dropped for 2+ years im used to it now.

now back to the topic

i my 01, and i have had her for 6 years now. im just a fan of ap1's what can i say plus 00/01 doesnt have the chrome trim around the tail lights!

the only major bad thing is the top, i had to have it replaced due to wear holes, luckily honda replaced it, but once again im getting more wear holes and im out of warrenty i will prob replace it will a glass top this time, so there is the fix to that.
the stereo issue that people have talked about (but what stock radio doesnt suck?!) who cares dont most people upgrade it anyway? i put my tweeters in the a-pillars and they sound better than on the doors. center console just being carpet ya that was ugly but i first got a leather cover now i have a carbon fiber one, so once again all of the small stuff that i didnt like about the car can easily be fixed

so i say def ap1 pref 01. but it all comes down to personal opinion and what you want.

i am also not an S2000 owner but i am planning to be in the very near future. so i am not be expert in this but will tell you what i know. in 2004 they introduce a new engine which you do not want to miss it because they lowered the torque to start from 6500 RPM, other than that i think the Slip Diff which in my opinion is also a very nice to have feature for stability and handling was introduce in 2006 models.

so it seems the shotcomings are all obvious, save for the stereo (who cares). overall does everyone feel they got their money's worth having bought one (considering the whole package, not just performace)?

Without a doubt!

How do you put a price on sheer driving pleasure?
