Default best year for used s2k?

hello new here

have been in the market for a car in s2k roadster class. the s2k seems like a great choice for the money but i dont think i can quite pull a brand new one. the 02-04 models seem reasonably priced but im wondering if theres any particular year thats better than others as far as used. i hear the 05-06's are a little more refined which takes away from some of the early model's performance.

what are the opinions here? thanks

The "refined" models you are referring to are the AP2's, which would be 2004+. IMHO, the best value would be an '02 or '03. With those you would get an AP1 with all of the minor improvements (glass rear window, slightly less crappy stereo, a CLOCK, etc.)

I loved my '02

Pretty much every year is a good year as long as it's running and in good shape. 02+ if you care about minor things like glass rear window and tweeters in the door. 04+ if you like the new styling and more torque.

Follow that link for pretty much all you need to know about changes between model years.

MY02 would be the oldest I would get....MY02 has the glass rear window. If you can I say spring for the MY04 cause it has the newer exterior pieces and the 2.2l......MY04 pretty much looks like a brand new MY06

When I was looking I was pretty set on either a 2002 or 2003. Preferably 2002 with a 5xxx or above VIN# since it had the revise oil banjo bolts. I got what a I wanted which is a 2002 with 75xx VIN# and I couldn't be happier. I wanted the minor interior improvements and the 2.0L engine.
