Default bought a new 05 yesterday!

Finally!! Been wanting one for years now.I got a new 05 with 68 miles on it in Denver for $29.3K silverstone metallic. I'm glad to be part of the s2k club.
Should I get the honda extended warranty -8 years $1645?

I'm going to have to give a negative on that extended warranty.

It is just an agreement that tends to net you no warranty work in the end if your car is even slightly modded. Are you really going to keep it 100% stock for 8 years or even keep the car for 8?

If you change your mind, you can always get it later for a slightly higher price. You'll know the fate of your car within the first 36k (lemon or not).

Just say no to padding dealer's pockets.

Yup, if any mod is done they will say "the x-brace you put on caused to much stress on the on the engine, so sorry claimed denied!"

My experience with extended warranties:

*MR2 Spyder engine puked at 50,000 miles. Car then went through 5 engines at months on end in the shop for countless issues, at a cost of approximate ~$80,000, which was covered under extended warranty. The vehicle had aftermarket exhaust, and a full TRD suspension including struts, spring, sways, front strut brace, rear strut/x-brace, underbody member brace.

*Nissan 350Z rear suspension started "popping" after the factory warranty. It was fixed under the extended warranty without a single complaint about the 19x10.5 wheels the car was wearing.

So my experience has been that as long as your maintained your vehicle, and there has been no obvious abuse, that they will cover repairs. In my case, I think the extended warranties have paid for themselves so far. You can also transfer them with the vehicle if you decide to see (leverage for getting a higher price), or cancel the warranty if you sell OR mod the car in ways that would not be covered and recieve a prorated refund.

If you don't plan to mod the engine, and you do plan to keep the vehicle past the normal warranty period, then an extended warranty could easily make up for itself if you even have 1 problem with the car later.

Welcome aboard, Russ.

Extended warrantee is really a question of whether you like to be covered. Also, do you trust your dealer? I think that's a big factor.

Most S2000s will not suffer anything like what Jason mentioned with his Mister Two (that's unbelievable, Jason!). In my own case, I didn't get the ext. warrantee.
