Default Breakin Period and Idle RPM

Hi Guys,

I just got a GPW MY05 on saturday and wanted to know if there are any special break-in stuff I need to do such as shift at or below 4k and vary the RPMs at times up to 500-1000 miles. This is just what I've heard and wasnt sure.

I was curious or do I just drive the car normal. What you guys think?

Also, what RPM does the s2k idle at.....mine idles at 900-1k is that normal?

You did look at the Owners Manaul that comes with it, didn't you? I forget what I did with my '05 except not to rev past 6K for 600 miles, I think it was.

I'd tell ya what mine says but I'd have to go get it out of the car and it's really cold outside.

Now you know. It's kind of fun reading those little books.

Pay attention to the stereo buttons. Those ones on the left side of the steering wheel are real handy. You can use the big MODE button to cycle through AM to FM 1 to FM 2 to CD and if you have it to XM and CD changer. Then you can use the CH button to change tracks on a CD or preset Channels on thr radio, within all of the previous MODEs. The only thing you can't do with those buttons is turn the stereo on and off. You have to open the door to do that.

The idle rpm is fine. You shouldnt rev past 6000 for 500 or 750 miles . thats what i did when i bought mine. the guy in the service adviced me that. and u also shouldnt use the brakes too hard for 300 miles. thats also important. and u can change your engine oil when u do 3000 - 4000 miles.

same consideration should be taken after your clutch has been changed.

^ really? I never heard that before jzz... Any idea why that might be so? The clutch is just a friction plate and some damping weights on springs; I don't know why it needs break-in.

The non-VTEC limit on new car break-in is for the engine, not the tranny/clutch...

Oh, and s2k23, your idle is normal. Usually idle drops below 1K after warm up.
