I found a really good article online:

-------------

Dealer Holdback

About 2% to 5% of MSRP is often held back by the manufacturer of the car, and will be paid to the dealer when the dealer actually sells the car. This amount does not depend on how many cars the dealer sells.

Action: Subtract this amount from the Invoice Price.

Factory To Dealer Cash

About $300 to $2000 per car is given back to the dealer to sell slow selling cars. (If the manufacturer has not made this factory rebate known to the public, the car dealers are not required to pass along these savings.)

Action: If the dealer has over 30 cars similar to the ones you are seeking to purchase, and these cars have been sitting on the lot for over 25 days, there may be manufacturer incentives that reduce the Actual Price. Ask the dealer about his dealership's quantity of similar cars they have on the lot, and factor in this information into estimating the dealer

Interestingly sales of the S2K are up for the first time in quite a while. Sales through Feb were 466 vs 452 at the end of Feb 07. I suspect this is due to the lease special being offered so early this time. If they don't continue the special sales will likely drop sharply.

I love the CR but they're too rare to work a deal on.

I'm very confident that I can get a base 08 for around $27-28,000 in Otober-December, however, the CR will not likely go below $32,000...that's a $4000 difference that I don't really want to pay.

On second thought tho, I WAS considering financing a hard-top into the deal so I guess If I can find a CR for around $30,000, i'll scoop that up...i just don't see that type of deal happening tho.

I'm in Texas...I hear Virginia is an awesome auto-market to deal with. What state/area do you reccomend shopping in? I don't mind driving the car across a few states. Thanks
