I don't trust myself enough to do it lol... just paying a good shop to do it. Costs around $100-120.

I agree that a VA is the first thing I would do after I purchased. But you are trying to decide whether to buy this car. I would want to see everything I could find out about the maintenance of the car in the past. The one thing I would want to sort out is if the car has been driven hard in VTEC a lot. If so, I would insist on a compression test. Even that is no guarantee. But, if the compression is good and if the car has no history of hard driving, I would buy it in a heartbeat. Truth is, even if it was driven hard, with that low mileage, and if the compression is good - I would buy it.

Valve adjustment is dirt simple but must be done on a cold engine (no more than 100°F). This means that if the shop has to start the engine to move the car inside it has to sit for hours and cool down.

Simple but tedious as there are 16 of these. Special tool is under $15 on Amazon. Bent feeler gauges probably under $10. New gasket set maybe $20.

So I ended up with a 2001 with 26,000 miles. What a fun car!! I have waited a long time to have a toy like this and I can tell you it is in perfect condition. The only problem that I have to get fixed is the Window regulator on the driver’s side needs looked at. When I drop the top the window only goes down a little bit. And the automatic window down feature doesn’t work either. Minor problem on an amazing car!
