Buying my Son's S2000
Hi Folks, I'm new to this forum but not new to the S2K. About 10 years ago, my son was getting married and I told him, "Someday your wife will ask you why you're keeping "that car". It's taking up garage space, the kids won't fit in it and you barely drive it anymore. When that day comes, let me know and I'll buy it from you and keep it until someday in the future when you'll say to yourself, "I sure wish I still had my S2000." and you can buy it back from me." Well, that day came this past week and it looks like I'm getting a very well maintained 2-owner (my son bought it from the original owner with only 2200 miles on it back in 2005) 2000 (July 99 manufacture date) all original S2000 with 62,000 miles. I'm an HPDE instructor for NASA Mid-Atlantic and have been in many, and tracked a few S2Ks with their ungodly high revving engine... pure bliss! The only down side is my son said in no uncertain terms, "Dad, absolutely no tracking this car!" Since it's pristine, I'll probably oblige him. I do have a question for you all... his car has rear deck spoiler that looks factory but I noticed not all S2Ks have that. Was it an option? I wasn't aware there were any options in 2000. Anyway, I'll be visiting the forum frequently and touching base in the "Racing and Competition" section as well as the more general areas. Thanks for your support and if you're ever at a NASA Mid-Atlantic event, look me up. I'll be either in the classroom or at the "Over the Hill Corvette Instructors" trailer. --Ralph

Thanks for the info. Yes, it was on the car when he bought it and I figured it must have been a dealer-installed option. I didn't know it wasn't available until 2001, good to know. It's a nice appearance upgrade anyway!

Tough question! Well, I ran a C4 Corvette dedicated track car for many years but had to do a lot to it to keep it competitive with the newer generations of Corvettes. It's hard to back away from high horsepower and high torque but it very expensive to maintain. For overall track performance for the money, it's hard to beat a C6 Z06 Corvette. They're getting cheaper and parts a readily available. For me, it would be the Z06. But money is always the object so I'd say a lightweight like a Miata but with more power, like the s2K or maybe the BRZ (I think they have a lot of potential and should be relatively inexpensive to maintain and modify).
