Well, I checked insurance, and by myself, with full coverage, costco discount, new graduate, and accident free discount, it comes out to $799 semi annual. Not bad...

Definitely I would pay the car in cash. On top of my student loans, I had lasik done two months ago, and have a balance of 2500 that I need to pay off by may next year..

This is what I'm looking at

What do you guys think? 2 owners, owner is a 40+ guy, guy before was also in his 40's, never raced, clean title, no mods, never abused, babied for 6 years...

I might have to jump on this soon, would 18k be a good offer?

no.

you need more money or live at home.

you'll have your car, but no gas money.

trust me, you need more money. you're not even thinking about tire, oil change, filter change, etc on the car. you wont have enough money for all that, car, insurance, rent, utilities, food, bad habits, and clothes.

I like how it becomes a "can I afford this?" to a "should I buy it?" thread.

Reread my post, as even your insurance is just about right. And now you have a lasik bill that you also have.. dude. Pay some things down and get it later... if you can still manage to save about at least $300-400/month, then consider purchasing.

It's the unexpected expenses that destroy you, not the budgeted ones. When you tie down your income down to the last few hundred, once that one thing comes up, you will go downhill.

But... doesn't sound like you're listening, so yea.. go buy it. But from the sound of the CL post, you are only going to piss him off. It clearly states, if the car is not in your budget, to look elsewhere for cheaper S2000s. I get the feeling you don't listen or comprehend very well. I don't mean to be an ass, but seriously man.

Listen to the man, live at home until you pay it off. You will also get an itch to mod it so might as well leech off your parents for a bit longer. Trust me it sucks living on your own and having to worry about making rent and monthly installments on your vehicle.

What about me?? I have 7Gs in the bank but have no income and midterms for the next couple days

Speaking of which, I should really be studying for those instead of yearning for an S2K of my own

Don't worry, I was in the same situation, except with nothing in the bank. I also spent time yearning for the S2000 instead of studying, but it all worked out in the end!

I dont know if I should post this here or in the S2000 thread...anyway here goes..

So I just got offered a full time job, starting base pay around 36,000. I live in the west coast, will need to move out soon and start paying rent (around 400 per month), food, and everything else that comes with being independent. I have a 13k car that I can sell and put towards the down payment on a used s2000, I'm looking for 2002-2005, around the 16-22k mark. The job will provide full medical, dental, a performance oriented bonus program, etc.

Can I afford this awesome set of wheels, and still live comfortably? I like to eat out a few times a week, go out occassionally, and buy toys (hopefully an r6 soon).

Thanks guys, doing the numbers, I know I won't be able to save too much, but I want to have some fun (done with school). Btw, I have about 15k in school loans....
nope - just wait until you make more money

car payment $$$

large insurance payment $$$

large tax payment $$$$

rent $$$

utilities $$$

social life $$$$

it's not worth struggling while driving a nice car. I sold my S when I bought my home
