That Check Engine Light
Hi everyone, I have a 2000 S2000 only 64000 mi and pampered, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT comes me and stays on, I only noticed it after my last oil change, and just had filled up with 93 octane. I read the comments and tightened my gas cap properly, the car runs and drives like new. Bugs the heck out of me that the CEL is still on. Auto mechanic did a scan this morning on a snap on sxcanner and it said “dealer specific” what else can I try and should I b worried

Check engine light is typically emissions related. OE exhaust and intakes on the car?
On unmodified cars the typical cause is a loose gas cap. From the Owner's Manual (who'd have thought about looking there!)
(Emphasis added.)
The '06 and later cars have a text warning on the dash for a loose gas cap. I've seen it once and it didn't trigger the CEL/MIL.

If you have recently refueled your
vehicle, the indicator coming on
could be due to a loose or missing
fuel fill cap. Tighten the cap until it
clicks at least once. Tightening the
cap will not turn the indicator off
immediately; it can take several days
of normal driving.

Depending on the code, given your model year, it might be the gas cap, but it might be the gas tank filler pipe. There was a recall or tsb or whatevver on that for the early model years. I had to replace mine on my 02.
