Clutch problem
In 2000 I purchased a new S2000 which now has just over 43000 miles. Although I have owned sports cars since I was in college, I am mechanically challenged. Recently, I noticed the friction point of the clutch was near the floor and the clutch shaft felt strange as I depressed it. I thought the clutch might need to be replaced until I read some of the topics on this website. I would not trust the Honda dealer in my city. The one time I took the car in for service, the dealer didn't have an air cleaner on the shelf; the dealership has a bad reputation, How do I go about diagnosing the problem? How difficult is it to change the clutch or could it just be the rod as I have read on this site? It's a great car and will most likely be the last sports car I purchase. Thanks.
YES, IT IS NEAR THE FLOOR AND THERE DOESN'T SEEM TO ME MUCH RESISTANCE AS I DEPRESS THE CLUTCH PEDAL THE FIRST SEVERAL INCHES. IT JUST SEEMS SLOPPY.
Check to see if you clutch reservoir is filled. I initially had very little resistance to depress the clutch and eventually could not engage any gear. Checked the reservoir and what do you know, it was almost empty. Turns out, my clutch master cylinder was leaking. (at 53,000mi 2005 AP2 )
Did a quick check under the dash and at the part where the piston passes through the firewall, there was a thick black glob of clutch fluid on it.
If it is the master cylinder and you dont know how to install in, buy the part online and have someone install it for you. My dealer wanted to charge me $500 for part and labor. Told them to use the part I bought from a certified Honda dealer online. Paid $200 for labor and shop fee. They also honored the 1yr warranty for the part since I had the dealer certified receipt.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had a friend check the fluid level. It was low, but he couldn't find any leak. After bringing it up to the proper level everything is fine. When I put the car up for the winter, he will change the fluid and check again for a leak. Thanks again. Louis
