I recently picked up a 2006 AP2 NFR. My DD is an 8th gen Si FA5 (stock except for air intake). The F22C definitely has a unique character to it no doubt especially after ~6000 rpm where it sounds like nothing else and am in no way trying to compare the capabilities of the two here. There are times though that (in my very limited time so far) that the K20's free revving nature surprised me where it seems even more eager to rev. Although I have had a lot more time in the FA5 so I'm not really qualified to make an accurate comparison.
But I was really hoping to hear from any current members who have/had experience with both an 8th gen Si and an AP2 (2006+) and what their thoughts were from a pure engine feel comparison? If this is not the right section, I would be happy to move it.

I'm in a similar situation too. I was going to originally boost the Si, but I had saved up so much money that buying an S2000 became more of a possibility. However, both the Si, and S2000 I bought as wrecks. I most likely wouldn't be driving the S2000 until next year, but that means I get to enjoy the Si for a little bit longer before I end up selling it.

 

I own a 02 rsx type s as a dd. All it has is an intake . Even though the s2k makes 240 my type s seems faster than my s2k. S2000 feels so sluggish until vtec. But I do own a ap1. So ur ap2 pulls harder before vtec. But agree in engine sound with u. I used to have a turbo ep3 making 350whp. Was thinking of boosting the S but that engine sound from just exhaust and intake ; I rather stay slow and enjoy that orgasmic engine noise. From 8k -9k it's just a symphony

 

Thanks for sharing your insight and experience guys. In a way the slightly different engine character is a good thing, don't want all our rides feeling too similar! The F22 does 'feel' more robust like its more in its element once singing in the higher RPMs, and perhaps rightly so given the different mission of the two.

 

I owned a 6spd 06 TSX for a long time in addition to my CR. The K series engine has more output capabilities. The F series accelerates much faster especially at Vtech, but the K series has greater torque potential at mid range with a few mods and the ability to FlashPro later model Civics is tremendous. Once you get into FI, the K series engine quickly surpass the F series in many ways.

Driving them both NA, the throttle response under WOT was quite different given the rear wheel drive platform. Even with both cars modded slightly the difference in compression is also noticeable. Owning a Civic with the new K variant would be a great addition to owning an S for a DD.

 

I had an 8thgen FG2 as well! Unflashed (no flashpro/tune) the civic feels soooo sluggish; the factory tune is terrible. K series motors definitely have more potential though. With that said I enjoy driving my S more

 

 

I own a comptech boosted FA5 (~250+whp) as my DD. While it's way faster in a straight line, even with the supercharger whine, I feel my AP1 is so much more enjoyable to rev out. Mind you, I also have a shorter FD on my AP1.

Either way, the AP1 is so much more enjoyable. It shows you how a sports car is supposed to handle, vs the Civic which carries too much compromise.
