Considering getting my first s2000 - Advice?
I don't mean to bust chops but a convertible sports car is still going to attract a good bit of attention. The best way to keep the police away is to obey the law. No speeding tickets or even warnings here. The one time I was pulled over was for having my stereo too loud in the middle of the night with nobody around. I was breaking a city ordinance. Cop probably just wanted to see if I was DUI and just let me go. Stupid, but I was breaking the law.
Do you think you could afford insurance on a car like this? Because your tickets and this car being a convertible would make it pretty expensive. I am from Oregon and I don't have any tickets and it's plenty expensive.
So, not to bash the forum members, but could you get off the topic of whether altreyu69 can avoid tickets and afford the insurance, and maybe provide him some of the advice he's seeking? I too am looking to buy my first S2000, but I'm an old man and my last ticket was in my daughter's Prius so there's no telling who they're after
. And I just sold a Sapphire Blue 1976 Datsun 280Z, so I know a little about attracting attention.I've heard pros and cons of AP1 vs. AP2, and if I had $13-15K what are the advantages of an AP1 with less miles vs. an AP2 with more miles, both of which I can get for that price range. Someone told me the AP1 was a bit rawer and less comfortable, but more responsive steering/handling, and that the AP2 had a little more torque but they "fixed" the steering to be less "twitchy". And since it's a Honda, 100,000 miles shouldn't be a problem, but what are the common problems/fixes that I should ask about or look for? I intend it as a daily driver, weekend autocrosser in B-Stock, and occasional track day events, if they'll let me without a full roll cage. (and i apologize in advance if there's a dozen older posts that have been through this before, i just thought i'd toss in my 2 cents on the poor abused Subbie owner).
OK, already found the wonderful and lengthy discussion elsewhere on what to look for in buying one (What to look for when buying a used S2000). EXTREMELY helpful, since the S2000-specific things like the buzz being the clutch plate, would never have occurred to me as being major. I'm looking at a 2001 with 98K and matching a OEM hard top tomorrow. I saw an OEM hardtop for $3200 on Craigslist, is that the typical price? About 2X what I paid for a Miata.
