Default Driving my S2K home Friday. 600+ Miles

I found a great deal on a 2001 Silverstone S2000 and am picking it up this Friday or next week. Cannot wait to bring her home as it has been a while since I've had a 2 seater. I have had 3 miata's but always felt they lacked power and the S2000 fits perfect into what I'm looking for. Cannot wait to take her to the track and autocross but I have a few questions:

1. Driving her for the first time, what do I need to watch out for? I've read a lot about oversteering and keeping power through turns etc, and when highway crusing keep the RPM's up a little to make hte engine work less. I'll be driving this a bit more than 600 miles home so I'll get some time to get to know the vehicle and I will be taking it easy until I get use to how this car handles.

2. When I get home, what should I perform to the car? The car has 105K, so i'm planning on changing the oil, trans fluid, rear diff etc. What else should I do? The car has 2 small tears in the top so I'm going to be patching them as I can't afford a new top at this time and it is not my daily driver so I will not be driving it in the rain much.

Great site, and cannot wait to start tracking my S2k.

Three of the most practical items you will need to know for the ride home:

1. If it starts to rain, be very, very careful. This car does not like rain, especially if on stock tires.

2. Make sure you know how to open the gas-filler door (its a little pull-knob on the inside of the drivers door jamb).

3. If a stock radio, try to find out the code from the previous owner. This will save you potential headaches later on.

Enjoy.

Thanks guys.

I know the tires are not stock as they are Hankook all seasons but I will be replacing them soon with a set of summer Hankook's.

The radio is also not stock as it has a pioneer head unit that can be used with an iPod. I'll also be removing this and adding an Apline so i can use the controls on the left of the steering wheel.

Great tips so far, thanks!!

Stop worrying...you'll be fine. I've driven this car through every season without a problem and it's great. The drive is slightly long so just hang in there...the car is small which gets annoying but you'll have so much fun.

Found out this morning that the guy I'm buying it from should have hte title in hand next Tuesday so I'm planning on flying out next wednesday to bring her home. Best part about it is that I have customers to visit near where i'm buying this S2K and I can expense the entire trip! I'll make about $400 on mileage enough for a new set of tires.

Try to get a list of some of the wear type things that have been replaced/changed and a decent mileage estimate, and change if needed:

-clutch
-plugs
-TCT if that has ever been replaced
-brakes
-brake fluid
-radiator fluid
-anything else that may be of interest

Change the following:

-oil
-tranny fluid
-rear diff fluid

They guy I bought it from was a member and kept a pretty detailed excel spreadsheet.
