I have been considering getting an S2000 in the very near future. Currently go a Volvo S70R which I love but just can get on with the handling! It does go like sh1t off a shovel though! ;o)

I had a look at a lovely Silverstone the other day. It was perfect all round but the engine has a very sinister knock. Sounds like small ends on cyl3. Have spoken to TGM who used to look after my old ATR and they say they've never heard of small end failure on an S2000!?!?

Another option is a nice looking 1999 JDM Imola Orange one. It has been sprayed Imola from black but looks like a spot on job in the ad, but a viewing will show the truth I guess!

Anyway, I look forward to ending up with my S2000 whichever it may be and getting along to some meets!

I'd pass on those 2 if I were you. Keep looking around and you definitely find the perfect one within a few weeks.

I'm certainly passing on the one with the knock, but why would you pass on the orange out of interest?

There are lots of cars about that seem nice but my issue is I'd rather buy from a trader purely because I can't be bothered with the hassle of selling my car. Also my budget is £6000 tops working on the assumption I'll get £3000 for the Volvo which the trader with the orange has offered.

I personally wouldn't buy a repainted car. Just to many "what if's" to worry about. In general, unmodified cars are more desirable and hold their value more than modified cars.

If your set on getting the orange S2000 just make sure everything is in proper working order. If the guy had it repainted theirs a good change he modified alot of other things on it is well.

The scary question about a repaint is why the guy did it. If it’s because he REALLY wanted that color, then it’s probably OK, but it could also be due to an unfortunate incident involving immovable roadside objects, or to cover body rot fixes. Be very careful here. Ask who did the work, what prep they did, what paint they used, etc. A good paint job is expensive. Proper prep requires a lot of steps and takes a long time. Generally, if a car has been recently painted and it’s for sale, the paint job tends more toward cheap than good.

Just as a guide, there is an AP-1 near me that has been painted, has 18” wheels, tinted windows, hard top, and more. It hasn’t sold in a couple months at $7500. (Frankly, I suspect a drug dog would have a field day with this car!) Nice stock AP-1s are going $10K plus in my area, and not staying on the market more than a few weeks.

Good luck with your search! Hold out for a nice S and your effort will be greatly rewarded.

Ok...you've talked me out of it with you very valid points. I had already asked myself the question if he wanted an imola orange S2000...why didn't he buy one. I'd understand more if it was a non standard colour.
