Engine compression results for 01 S2000
Hey all,
I'm planning on buying a 2001 s2000 soon, and had a Engine compression test done on it at the dealership.
The results were
#1- 190 #2- 180 #3- 190 #4- 185
Just want to know if these results are good or not and what else I should be looking out for.
Thanks

how many miles are on the engine? those numbers are good. generally you want to be within a 5 psi variance between cylinders. having identical readings in each cylinder is ideal, however you wont notice anything with "better" or "higher" compression readings.
if you really want to nit-pick as to why cylinder 2 has 180 vs. the rest, you can do a wet compression test and a leak down test to confirm why that cylinder is lower than the others. . . but i wouldnt be too concerned with those numbers.

That sounds pretty good. Nominal is 228psi (that'd be for a new engine, I think). Minimum is 135psi, and max variation is 28psi.
Sounds like you're good to me!!
Make sure the spark plugs have been replaced and torqued to 18lb-ft (rather than 13lb-ft). This was a recall in late 2002.
If you can, you should also do an oil pressure test to gauge the health of the oil pump.
All that said, swap all the fluids and have fun!
Make sure the tranny feels good too. Some of the early cars had reported grinds, etc...
