Default Compression test results

I read that 240 is ideal for a our engine compression, but my numbers were significantly lower. At least there were no huge variations. Here are numbers:

Cold Engine
185,170,200,190
180,180,190,190

Warm Engine
195,200,195,190
200,200,197,190

What do you think? My car is a 2000 AP1 with 117k miles.

seems a bit low.

I ran a test today on a warm engine and got 220 220 230 230.

But atleast all your numbers are very close to each other, max variation should be 28psi. Nominal value is 228 and minimum is 135.

What does it mean if my numbers are low?

cracked retainers/scored walls/ faulty head gasket/ worn valve springs.......it can mean a number of things really. One must distinguish which of the specific causes it is.

Do a leak down test and see if your numbers are within reason.

if doing a compression test might as well always do a leakdown test as well.

Numbers do seem a bit low. Did mine today on warm engine. I have 128K on it and recently been sc'd.
I got:
224
223
223
224

The biggest concern with a compression test is consistency though.
You want to make sure no cylinders are more than 10 psi difference really.

I also forgot to hold the throttle open so would have been a little bit higher I think but all consistent so that is what I care about.

Hey guys, I was reading the tutorial DIY again and realized that I didn't hold open the throttle while I was cranking. Would this give me lower numbers?

I'll try again this afternoon with the throttle open this time and let it warm up longer. Maybe I'll have better results.
