First sports car, and the S2000 is really taking my fancy!
Hi Guys,
So I've been driving for nearly 3 years in my Fiat Punto Grande 1.4. Fortunately it hasn't followed the cliché of Fix It Again Tomorrow!
But now, im looking for something with a lot more umph! I've been told that either the MX-5 or S2000 are great introduction sports cars. I really cant seem to like the MX5 but the S2000 is a whole other story! For the price and over 220BHP its a bargain, and just reading up on the endless positive review about this car has made me want it that much more!
Which is why, come 3 years of owning the Fiat (August) I will be looking to get a S2000!
But I'm unsure on a few bit! I'm looking to set my self a budget of £5,000, can I get a decent s2000 with this, also in term of mileage, what s2000 should I steer away from if its above a certain amount?
Also, I'm unsure on the car tax for it, one ad on auto trader had it at £490!! and most of the others at £290, I'm assuming its £290 but just wanted to make sure with you guys!
Finally, does it really matter what year s2000 i go for, because as far as I know and read, they seem to differ only by a few details.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and look forward to hearing from you guys!
Cheers,
Zaz

I don't think high mileage is necessarily bad - so long as it's been maintained well. There are cars on S2Ki that have huge odo figures. I also think to go for the best you can within your budget (which will likely be an AP1), but they're both great. Try and source one that hasn't been in an accident.
Hi Clio,
Thanks for the reply!
And yes, was definitely looking for a non accident one, better on the insurance!
Are you from the UK and own a S2000 Clio?
EDIT:
Sorry, just switched to the full website, wouldn't show me what country you were from on the mobile site!
So do you own one Clio?

I've had an AP1 for 6 years. My car history is Mazda rx-7, R32 Skyline, Clio 182 and mkv Golf GTI. Now I have the s2000 I never tire of it and can't see myself ever selling. I perform my own maintenance and the car has never let me down. I use it daily.
If you like a more luxurious car then the S2000 won't cut it for you. There's quite a bit of road noise, it's relatively cramped (but still comfortable) and the suspension is on the harsh side. But if you enjoy driving it is fantastic. The ability to wind the engine out without fear is a beautiful thing. On top of this the car has maintained, and even improved in value since I've owned it. What's not to like?
If you're spoilt for choice then grab one with an oem hardtop. With your English winters it makes for a better all round car if it's bitterly cold.
