Default getting a used car checked out

would a honda dealer be the best place to get a used car mechanically inspected before purchase? do i just have to take it in and ask them to do a compression test, inspection, etc? how much does this usually cost?

Good question. They "ought" to know the car better than your average mechanic.

I think it really does depend on the quality and service of each dealership. Don't be fooled by the bigger ones either. If you have a mechanic you trust I would take it him first and then the honda dealership. Ask around your local community to see if the place is reputable or not.

From my limited time on these boards, I could tell that compression test and tranny/diff. check is a must.

ok for those of you who would like to know, i called a local honda dealer and a basic inspection which includes a compression test is $98. probably differs dealer to dealer but theres a ballpark figure for all of you out there.
