Default MOTs

Hey!

I've always taken mine to the Honda dealer where I bought the car but I'm thinking I might try an find a somewhere a little more local (I live in Manchester but take the car to Honda crewe)...

Do you still get Honda to MOT your car?

I wouldnt want to take mine to anwhere too shoddy in the fear of someone damaging it!

Does it really matter where you take your car for an MOT?

Is your dealer a registered MOT test centre?

Most dealers just drive the car to a nearby test centre, and charge you more for it.

Who is named as the test centre on past cetificates?

I wouldn't let Honda within a mile of my S.

I can imagine the conversations they would have with the MOT station "We're a bit short of money, say all four calipers/disks/pads need doing"

To that end, I get a local friendly MOT garage to do it.

Yes its a registered MOT centre. Its 40 miles away though so not the most convenient

Anyone know of any reliable "safe" MOT stations round Manchester way?

You could try putting your postcode into this website and then filter the 'services' section to 'MOT':
http://www.goodgaragescheme.co.uk/

There should be reviews for each garage in the search results.
How valid these reviews are is a completely different question, however. You'd hope they're genuine but these days you never know...

N.B. I've not used the website myself to find a garage! Thought it may help...

I now always go for a council run MOT.

Whilst I accept garage owners need to make a living i'm sick of being ripped off for jobs not necessary.
I just end up leaving it with them to a get a cert.

Alex, Kwikfit in Chester on St. Nicholas Street will do it for £35 I think if you book it on line.

I know you said you are looking for some thing in Manchester but can you not drop it off & pick it in Chester up in your normal working day?

Lots of people slate Kwikfit but TBH I have used the one in Chester numerous times & the guys there actually know what they are doing.

The service manager there is very good.
