Is this a good deal?
Hello all! I'm a loong time lurker, and finally the time has come for me to get an s2000. I found a 2000 GPW/Red, with 25,500 Miles. The owner is the second owner, and said that he purchased the car certified in 2003, with 5500 miles. The car has a hardtop ( included), and a tonneau cover (included as well). Other than that, the car is completely stock, and looks to be in prestine condition. His asking price was $18,900, and He has accepted my offer for $17K. Now, Is there anything to look out for on the MY2000? I really dont like the fact that it has a plastic window, but I'll be top down for the most part, and it has a hardtop so that makes up for it. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! I hope to change my status from guest to Owner soon!
Search in the UTH forum here. There are a few TSBs for my2000. And make sure to get it checked out by a mechanic first. Have them check the valves and retainers especially and all of the regular maintainance stuff (fluids, brakes, tires...) blah blah.
In any case it sounds like a great deal, and will no doubt be very collectable in a few more years.

thanks for your input guys. But I've heard that it's not worth it to get a MY2000 no matter what the deal is.. Atleast, that's what moyopoyo told me..

In that case, you should run away from this car as fast as you can.
well what about you? have you had any problems? I was told this bc he said that the my00 has alot of recalls and you'd be better off w/ an 01-03..

I would buy a '00 all over again, if the deal were right. The newer ones have been upgraded in a lot of small ways, but I've seen nothing that I personally would pay a lot more money to have. Including, at this time in my life, the glass rear window. If my car becomes a winter daily driver, my opinion on the glass rear window might change.
I did have to replace the clutch disk at about 35k miles because it rattled and buzzed when decelerating. But the disk and related small parts were only about $125, and it did fix the problem, at least for now.
When you test drive the car, go over 4k rpm in second or third, then let off the gas. Listen as the revs drop through the 4k to 3k rpm range.
My driver's window "auto down" doesn't work most of the time, but I just push on the window switch and go on. I'll probably never bother to fix that.
It doesn't have a clock, and several other equally insignificant little things. But if the car were solid and the price were right, I'd do it over again.
