Welcome. I’m like you, have had my car for a long time but just joined the forum a few months ago. What color and how many miles?

It is silver and have about 34500 miles on it.
I haven't been driving it that much the last few years but i have to do some routine maintenance on it.
Also was on this site and the internet this week and came up with a few things/ issues with the S2000 i was not aware of
like the timing belt tensioner, and valve adjustment

Yes i was just reading a thread on here that said probably after 50k on valve adjustment.

I have to listen more closely to the engine, sometimes it has a ticking sound but from what i have recently read
that is not the same sound as when it is casued by the TCT

Also i belive the AP1 has a timing chain not a belt from what i have researched?

Thanks for your input

what is your opinion on replacing the TCT with an aftermaket replacement like Billman?
i had been researching and seems like the aftermarket replacements are better and life time guaranteed,
for about $250. Was thinking of doing this ahead of time as the car is 16 years old.

Welcome to s2ki. I have a silver 02 as well. Great car.

I adjusted my valves last year with about 25K on the car just to check them and set a base line. They were all within spec., but I set them all on the tight side of spec. while I was in there. I did change all the gaskets as well just on general principles given the age of the car. It had never been opened up before. I also changed the plugs at the same time. They were the original plugs. I'm not sure if it was the plugs (my guess) or the valves, but after that work the engine ran extremely well.

I would be surprised if your TCT is failing with that many miles on the car. Maybe, but I doubt it. Mine is fine, and I plan to leave it alone unless it starts acting up.

Again I appreciate your detailed response.
I don't think i could do the valve adjustment but i think i could handle the TCT from vidio's i
have seen on how to do it. Main thing i would be concerned with is the parts falling into to engine on
removal.
I will record the engine and would be interested in seeing what your opinion.is.
Sounds like you really know the car and have alot of expertise with the S2000.

Thanks

Again, I was in the same boat. Scared of screwing up my baby. Trust me, YouTube is your friend. Just search, watch, rewatch, and take your time. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working on mine and have gained confidence with each new venture.
