Default Hello S2ki!

Hi all, I'm new to the boards. I don't own an S2k yet, but that may change in the next few weeks. I've got a Mazda 3 as a DD, and have been thinking about replacing or supplementing it for the past few months. At first I was looking to replace it with a hot hatch (VW Golf R or Focus ST). More recently I've been thinking that the Mazda is in fine shape, has never broken down on me, and would make a fine DD for when I need to haul medium-sized stuff around (hey, it's not a pickup). So instead of selling it, I could supplement it with something less practical and more fun. To fill this role I've considered the Audi TTS, BRZ, Fiat 500 Abarth, RX8, Z350/370 and Miatas from NA to NC. From what I can tell from my reading, the S2k is a good balance car. It's quick, a decent handler, gets reasonable gas mileage for a sports car, reasonably well refined/equipped (I like my creature comforts), has great looks, is reliable, and is reasonably affordable. The S2k doesn't win any of those categories vs. that list individually, but may well do the best in all of them combined.

I'm from NoVA and looking to buy an AP2, either LB or SYP. Trying to get a feel for the car, and get a feel for what a good deal on a reasonably low miles 2006 should run me. Every performance car has its local internet hangout that is the best place to get a feel for the vehicles and the supporting community. I have spent time at many of them during my decision process and I've generally found people to be friendly, helpful and informed. I hope this board is no different. Thanks for having me, I hope I can contribute as much as I take away.

Welcome aboard! I've been reading a lot about S2000 theft and vandalism here lately so I really encourage the idea of keeping your Mazda 3 as a DD and supplementing it with a less-practical and fun S2000. FYI, AP2s don't come in SYP (they changed from Spa to Rio Yellow Pearl in 2004). You might check out the Mid-Atlantic section for local happenings. Good luck with your search and let us know if we can help!

Thanks! I have garaged parking at home and I work at a gated facility with 24-hour armed guards, so I am not too worried about the theft/vandalism in my situation. I must have meant RYP and looked up the wrong color .
