Default Help on choosing the right S2K

Hi everyone, I'm not an s2k owner but I'm interested in purchasing one of these cars for road racing. What i'd really like to know is, what year is the best option to buy as far as transmission and engine? Everything else I'm not really interested since I'm probably gonna gut it all out. Just looking for a good starting point for my next project, so as you know I'm not looking to pay a lot for the car either.

Maybe you could find an early year S that has been totaled by the insurance company due to stolen OEM interior parts...seats etc.

true, I'll look into that thanks. but is there a difference in the performance or difference in the tranny and engine in any of the years?

00-03 had the 2.0 liter which revs to 9000 rpm, engine and transmission were changed in 04.

I think there's a thread that details all the changes that were made.

You'll probably want to go with an 02-03 as they have a better ecu than 00-01.

Thanks for the feed back and info. What was the difference on the ECU?
