hey, im new to the site. i drive a celica gt and it burns oil like a furnace. i was planning on giving it to my brother when he got his licence and i was going to get a s2000. unfortunatly the 1zz is burning more oil than ever and is starting to run like crap so it is in need of an engine swap. this got me thinking that maby i should get a 03 mr2, take the 1zz out of it to put in the celica then drop a 2zz or k20 into the mr2, probably 2zz for ease of install. im not realy a fan of the way the mr2 looks, and think the s2000 looks far better, but a 2200lb car with 180hp is very intising. i would have to belive that a swapped mr2 would be very close if not equal in performance to an s2k. so im trying to decide bettween the 2 and need to know insurance rates, cost of replacement parts, etc. does the s2k have any problems. ive done a good amount of reaserch on the s2k and would probably get a 02-03 ap1 if i were to get one. i guess i just need help deciding.

 

A few problems that I could think of. I know that the Ap1's (00-03) sometimes have a tendency to burn some oil, according to Ap1 owners (I put Mobil 1 and I'm burning quite a bit. Thinking about trying Amsoil). Since you want an Ap1, check the valve retainers. Insurance is high for this car, and replacement parts are expensive. With that being said, get the S2000 It looks way better than the mister two and the feeling you get when you push the start button and drive is phenomenal

 

i always use mobil 1 . is there a fix for the ap1 oil consumption? what do i do about the valve retainers? how expensive for what parts?
