Hopefully a new owner soon : ) !
Hi there, I am new to this site (cool place btw)...anyway I am in the middle of selling my 2005 STI on Ebay and purchasing a 2006 Rio yellow S2K http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Subaru-Impr...632520085QQrdZ1 anyway anything I should know about a 2006 vs. a 2005 S2K other than the 3 hp less and rpm's, rims etc...thanx
Hey guys here are a few differences:
'00-'03 - there were a few minor changes. Plastic to glass rear window, little different tail lights, more speakers, etc. These cars were known as AP1's.
'04-'05 - This was the first year of the bigger engine (2.0 - 2.2). The horsepower was the same but torque is up. The front and rear fascias were changed along with headlights and taillights. Larger wheels and a little bit of different spring rates. These are known as AP2's.
'06 - Drive by wire was added. Traction control was also added. The seats were changed and more speakers were added. Wheels changed design but are the same size as the '04-'05. BTW - Horsepower is not down in this year, the horsepower rating system changed. It still produces 240hp in the old system.
Hope that helps. These are NOT the only changes. Just a few changes are listed. Search will help you find all the differences.

So the seats are larger then in the 06 model? I am 6'2'' tall...I sat in a yellow 06 @ the dealer last friday, and I fit fine (seat was all the way back incl.the back rest as well), I have not yet examined a 04-05 seat as of yet...guess I will be going w/ the 06 model then
Oh and I will be purchasing it @ invoice around $31,200.00. Not too crazy for the 06 wheels, would prefer the 04-05's instaed

Nothing earlier than a 2004 model, they enhanced the suspension, engine, rims, etc,etc...
Over the years the car has gotten "softer". The suspension has gotten softer, redline is lower, given more torque and low end (relatively speaking). Honda has managed to soften the car up while maintaining similar performance. For this reason many people would agree with the "nothing earlier than a 2004" statement. Personally, when I was looking for my car I would accept nothing later than a 2003
It's all personal preference. You just gotta ask yourself, are you a manly man (00-03), or a wimpy little girl (04-06)? HAHAHA.

I have an '02 myself, and wouldn't want any other year. 03 was the last year with 9k redline. 02 was the first year with glass rear window. 04 was the first year they added a 2nd cupholder, rim diameter grew to 17" and width grew to 7" front and 8.5" rear. Also got LED taillights and triple beam fronts. Personally, I like the harsher ride of sports car and love the ride of my '02. Good luck, and when you get it, welcome aboard
ONEQUIK... Find a used one and see how you fit before you make the decision.
The MY06 differences are significant. There's a good run down of them in a sticky thread at the top of the under-the-hood forum.
