Default How does the hard top work?

I'm a prospective S2K owner. I like the idea of the removable hard top, but I'm trying to figure out how it works. Do you put it on over the soft top, or do you put it on in place of the soft top? Are there any pictures out there that would show the process?

Do either the hard top or the soft top have seal problems in rain or during washing? Is it difficult to heat the cabin on a cold day due to air leaks? I know I have heard that most convertibles these days have overcome these problems, but I wanted to hear from folks who actually own one.

Of course, I plan to go look at one in person in the next month or two but I wanted to get a preliminary feel for the issues.

The hard top goes over the retracted soft top. There are 2 fasteners in the back and it uses the front latches to hold it on. I don't get any leaks with either top.

FYI, price is also a factor. Hard tops, whether they're Honda, Mugen, etc. are fairly expensive items.

So help me out... What does the hard top usually cost? I noticed that it disappeared as an option for '06 on the Honda web site. It seems odd to me that they will sell you a "hard top storage rack" as an accessory but not the hard top itself.

Did they get rid of it entirely? I'm confused.

I heard production of the Hardtops stopped during the fall.
That's probably why you didn't see it.
Haven't heard a definite reason why they stopped making them,
but rumor has that they were moving production from one plant
to another. I have heard they are back producing them now.

When you get the hardtop, be sure to hook up the rear defroster

I gather that a substantial number of dealers do not carry the hard top. So, while it is not listed on the web site, it is most certainly still in production and still available. Contact your individual dealer or Hardtopguy for more information.

The recent production issues to to have been resolved.

I ordered LBP hardtop with my new 2006 S2K. Just a week ago dealer
told me that Honda is accepting orders starting January 9th. Delivery
date unknown at this time.
