Default impulse buying

Hi Everyone,

I can not believe what I have done this past Friday. I have been looking for an used s2000 for quite sometimes and my impluse buying has made me a proud owner of a nfr s2k. Its a 2000 model with 53k miles on it. I was not even sure on Friday if I did the right thing but now, I am quite happy.

I saw the car advertised on the website at a local dealer for a fairly good price ($15k) . I hopped in my WRX and drove straight to the dealer. A test drive and a few hours later, I was driving home with an s2k. I am keeping the wrx for the winter.

The dealer I bought the car from allows me to return the car for a full refund within 5 days, so I am planning on dropping the car off at a mechanic for a complete diagnostic test. (I hope everything turns out well)

A little bit about the car: The car is already lowered (not sure if it is a good sign or bad) but it rides fine and does not bounce around at all. In addition to the lowered suspension, it also came with an AEM cold air intake. I do not believe there is any other mods.

If the car is a keeper, I am planning on changing all the fluids.

Please let me know if there is anything I should do as well. On the bad side, the car did not come with an owner's manual and hence I have to go order one now.

Just wanted to share my experience and introduce myself.

Congrats on the purchase!! Definitely change all your fluids. As Chazmo will tell you, "Keep an eye on your oil level". The early years did have a little bit of an appetite for oil. Hopefully your car gets an OK from your mechanic, because you won't regret your purchase.

Check the tread depth on your tires as well, particularly the inside of the rears. Replace and get an alignment as needed.

Congratulations.

See-drive-buy

Maybe the manual is in the "secret compartment".

I'm sorry, but I can't tell you how to find it because I haven't found it myself yet

Welcome to the club! Impulse buying for me typically includes maybe a new shirt or pair of shoes... You took it to another level!

Great news, mine was also an impulse buy, saw it advertised, drove it, signed the papers, drove home the following week! Never regreted it yet.

Make sure some damned fool didn't just cut the springs on the car. That could be a disaster. Assuming lowering was done right, there are a number of things you should check, specifically compression and leak-down. A competent mechanic should be able to verify that your car is within spec -- if not, then the car may have been mistreated at some point...

Change all the fluids (I mean *all*) and start fresh as soon as possible.

Are you driving in a winter environment? You should consider snow tires (or at least winter tires) if so.

Best of luck, and welcome aboard! Be sure to read through the FAQ threads at the top of the introductions forum (here).

Hi Chazmo,

Good news, the car turns out to be ok. My brother took it to the mechanic for me so he has the details.

From what he told me so far,

1. Compression test checked out fine (210 in all cyclinder)
2. No structural damage
3. Mileage correct
4. No oil leak
5. Suspension components is ok (he wrote the the aftermarket suspension name so I am assuming it is not cut springs)

The mechanic did mentioned that there were some noise coming from the transmission. I think this may be the "all too famous" TSB 54 where the transmission would make noise while decelerating. From what I have read on the board, it seems like there is no effect on performance and drivability. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks for the suggestions and advices.

Ed

Excellent! Well, enjoy it then!!!

(and, as spa01s2k mentioned, watch the oil at every fillup)
