Initial Impression After Test Driving An s2000
So i've been eyeballin s2000s for a while now, and managed to save some money. Started looking around and went to test drive an s2000 yesterday. It was an 06 GPW with 35k miles (private sale), slammed ride with K3V3 coilovers and an OEM front lip (as far as mods). First time seeing it in person from close up, it's so clean and nice, especially with the black interior. The condition of the exterior was very good, except for the rolled fenders, which could of been done better.
Now the moment i got into the car was like WHOAAA, that's a friggin SMURF Mobile. It was so compact, not much room to move, the dashboard was so small as well as the steering wheel. With the top up, the visibility dramatically decreased. This is going to be my DD (so 06+ VSA helps), so in cold mornings in spring/summer or when it's raining, top will have to be up. Reading a bit on blindspots for the s2000, most people have switched to hardtop to eliminate this, and considering it's a small car, other s2000 owners seem to be very cautious of drivers, especially SUV or Trucks because it's hard for them to see us, due to the car being small. Driving around the city, pulling behind cars, i noticed my eye level was kind on the tail lights/trunk level of the car in front of me. I was kind of surprised since i am 6 feet tall. That is definitively because his s2k been lowered, but even if i raised it a bit, i shouldn't be up too high.
Other than that, the ride was very smooth, driving at 130 km/h, felt like i was cruising at 70. The sound of the engine was phenomenal. Pulling at a red light to hear a 9 year old scream "DADDY LOOK AT THE CAR" made me laugh. I know everytime i braked, i would hear a grinding noise from from the back left side, owner told me i had to replace brakes and for some weird reason, my feet were getting warmer and warmer, wonder if the heater was on....i'm going to get that check out. He's selling the car for 24.5k, some of you maybe think it's overpriced but that's kind of what the car is going in Canada/Ontario.
I'm sure other people had the same impressions as me, how long till you get used to the compact size? Maybe i'm just afraid for my safety in this small car. There are all of kinds of drivers out there. I still have a few s2000 to test drive before i select which want i want...but i'm not sure if i want an s2000 now lol.

Not a terrible price for the car, I have seen some go for higher. In Edmonton I picked up my 06 with 30k kms on it for 21,000 but it was Suzuka Blue. The fact that that is GPW will boost the price up. Also the warm feet would definitely be the heater, as far as blindspots go I have definitely been in worse cars, never really had an issue with mine.
About the space thing. When I first sat in an S2000 when I was deciding what car to purchase, I put off the S2000 because of how cramped the interior felt. After checking out similar cars though, I ended up going back with the s2k and taking the risk. It didn't take long for me to get used to the size after I bought it. Every time a friend gets into my car they mention how small it is. Now, after getting used to it, it feels spacious to me. Its my home!
I wouldn't let the space put you off unless you carry a lot of cargo and actually need the room. I think you'll get used to it, otherwise.
