Default Just bought an s2000 and found this

Hey everyone. I just bought a 2002 with 76k miles on it and found something when I got home.. There's a leak coming from the rear differential mount on the driver's side.

How serious is this and is it expensive to repair? I don't want to drive it anymore until I find out what's wrong with it.

Any help appreciated!

You're fine to drive it with it leaking. I just wouldn't be doing any hard launches or banging gears. You can often find good used mounts here or if you prefer goto the dealer and buy new. The ones i've seen for sale used are pretty inexpensive and its not a difficult job.

Thank you very much! Is this something that should be replaced soon? What's the purpose of the liquid and what kind of damage can it cause if there's no more liquid inside of the mount?

The rubber is filled with the liquid and it helps to help dampen the normal vibrations from the drivetrain and to help deter any clunks/jolts you may encounter from a rough start in 1st gear and things of the like. There are 4 mounts total so having one down isn't the end of the world but you may get worsening vibrations/noise as the fluid escapes further.

here's the honda parts diagram, depending which side of the car its on you will need either item 2, or 3. The picture shows the direction of the front of the car to assist.

Would you recommend upgrading to Hasport mount or should I just go with stock? Also, can the vibrations cause any collateral damage?

It wouldn't hurt anything unless maybe the rubber part gets completely broken, at that point your diff would be allowed to move around more.. Even so I think you would need 2 or more broken completely to really do any damage.

I would suggest going with OEM unless it's a track car and you don't care about added noises and vibrations.
