Post Just picked up my '02

Well, I just picked up my Berlina Black '02 last thursday. Haven't driven it much since it has been raining since friday.

Anyways, I had a few questions about the car. the car has 33,174 on it and was a one owner lease vehicle (older lady). The car is spotless inside and out. This is my fifth honda and something new to learn about. (Previous hondas include: 88 CRX si, 89 CRX HF, 98 Integra GS-R, 05 Element:wifes car)

I've been reading through articles here and there, but cannot find the FAQ section, and am failing to find a startpoint of what issues to be aware of on an '02. I know on the integra boards I was on, they had an articles section that explained CEL codes, how to check them, as well as a variety of issues to be proactive about.

FWIW, the car was manufactured in march of '02 and the last numbers on the vin are 004962.

Can anyone list me off some things to watch for?
I have been reading about:
Tranny problems
#4 cylinder problems
syncro problems
getting a new short block ?!?!
oil jet bolts, 2 hole vs. 4 hole
notchy shifting
and a few others.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Sounds like your found yourself a nice S. Don't be to concerned with the reliability of this car, its a Honda not a Maserati. Be sure to stay up on the service and it will take care of you. I would swap your diff. and tranny fluid now.

I have a MY00 with no problems. And one of my shop guys is about to turn 85K on his 00 and enjoys driving it if you know what i mean. He has had to replace a clutch and normal services but that is it!

Enjoy the car and don't take everything you read on a message board to heart with out checking on the source.

Enjoy and welcome!

That's great advice! I'm a new owner also, but in the last 3 months I've learned we've got a lot of posters that pull the trigger pretty quick when it comes to problems. The least little rattle and they're worried the car's going to blow a tranny. On the other end of the spectrum, we've got owners that race these things and will drive right through a multitude of problems.

The rest of us fall somewhere in between the two. Treat your car good and it will return the favor.

Thanks for the advice guys, I wasn't sure if I needed to look out for a lot of things, or, like you said, some people are just really anal.

As far as pricing goes, I paid 21500 out the door. I figure it was as good a deal as I was going to get from a dealer. Private party is less, but you have to find your own financing, (not fun)

Here ya go.

resized! I assumed the forum would autosize it for me. The integra forum I was on would do this when you posted.

Welcome aboard.

Check the spark plugs. There was a recall during the latter half of 2002. Click here

Your car has the older, 2-hole oil bolts (4-hole started with engine 5386 in MY02). See this thread for details. This part was never recalled in the US, and I'm not suggesting that you change it, but it wouldn't be a bad thing.
