Default Anyone gone from S to Z06 or vice versa?

I'm really considering this. If the VA gets me my benifets i'll probably trade my 02 S in and get an 01 or 02 Z. Also, does anyone know if there is really and difference in power between the 01's and 02's? Its slated to be 385 -405, but i've always been sceptical and assumed all they did was change the advertising.... Thnx,

Brandon

Yes there was definitley an increase in power between the 01 and 02+ models.

The 01's are notorious for having ring flutter problems and are much more prone to oil consumption in comparison to the 02+ models. Many 01 owners have had their cars "re-ringed" to take care of the problem and most corvette forums will suggest that you stick to the 02+ when shopping for a Z06.

Here...check this site out...it has great information:

Great question by the way. I have contemplated doing this for the longest time but I just can't see myself being happy in the long run with another GM product. I had a 2002 Z28 before the S2000 and as much as I loved the LS1 engine, I simply couldn't stand the interior and perceived lack of build quality. I know a C5 and F-body are light years in terms of comparison but the C5 still has the undesirable interior. I will say this though...the torque and hp from that engine made me overlook this about 95% of the time. With the LS6 I'm sure I wouldn't even have noticed.

I had an opportunity to drive a friend's C5 convertible over the weekend. It's not a ZO6 but I thought I might chime in just to say I wasn't all that impressed. Yes it's a torque monster, yes it's fast, but that's about it. Everything seemed to be falling apart inside the interior. It would pop out of 1st gear unless you held it in with your hand, and the shifting just felt long & sloppy.

Having said that, I'd like to test drive a Z just to feel the difference.

I really like Corvette's, even toured the plant in KY. I test drove one, (not ZO6) it would flat go! But honestly, I love my S better.

I guess it just depends on what you want.

corvettes are light because they're plastic. i hardly call that cutting edge tech. also, LEAF SPRINGS? come on!

The LS6 is an amazing engine considering what it's based on. If the corvette was actually made like a $50,000 car I'd consider it, but the cheapo interior and materials turns me away.

Not to flame but yes, the Corvette has transverse mounted leaf springs in the rear. And it will hand any car in it's price range it's ass on a silver platter on a road course. So what's the problem with the leaf springs? Can you tell me?

Talk to s2kfun, he's on his second Z06 but he kept his S2000 too. He's a VERY good auto-xer and can probably tell you all you need to know between the S and the Z06.

I don't know about you guys, but i'm a fan of the NEW Z06 interiors. The two tone red/black you can get is hot, and looks great on either a red or black paint scheme. Thnx for all the opinions though. I'm still pretty much dead set on the trade in, and if i do it, i'll let you all know how it goes. Thnx,

Brandon

I wouldn't trade my S in its current form for a Z06, but I sure wouldn't mind having a Z as a 2nd car.
