Default Just picked up my S on wed. and have a few ?'s

Hey everyone! Picked up my 2002 Sebring Silver S2000 w/ 31k miles on it wed. night. So far I LOVE IT!! I just have a few questions if you guys don't mind helping me out.

1. I noticed that when I am in first gear and finishing letting the clutch out, it feels like it is slipping. I highly doubt it b/c of the mileage, and the car does not appear to be beaten on. Am I worrying over nothing? When I am changing gears into other gears, I don't notice or feel that, nor when I rev it up a bit and fly around. Am I spinning the tires maybe b/c there is hardly any weight back there?

2. Also when the clutch first makes contact or when I rev match upshifting, I think I hear this kind of growling sound..its not loud at all, and it only does it when I rev match. Is this a problem?

3. I know this car likes to be revved and it was built for that, but I noticed today when I was in 2nd gear and going kind of slow, it seemed to stumble and buck a bit when I was pulling out. It was cold outside, but I think I should have gone into first. Is this a problem?

Thanks for the help if you can answer these questions for me!!

1. you might be just getting used to this car... but you could take it to a local club meet and have someone check it for you (very unlikely that you are spinning your tires)

2. mine does that on the rare times that the top is up. otherwise i dont notice it. again, guys at a local meet can check it for you

3. should not be stumbling unless you are really lugging it. might be driver error. take it to a local meet and have another owner check it for you.

sounds like a broken record- meet some other owners who can check it for you!!

of course the other choice is your dealer. and i can tell you that my pref by far is the local guys and not the dealer.

Thanks for the response! I am sure more than likely it is just me getting used to the car. When the top is down, I can't hear that "growl" sound anyway. I am sure that is just me getting used to the car.

THe stumbling was more "bucking", and it could have been me accidently getting on and off the gas a little bit making the car jerk. I'll be honest and say I am probably worrying over nothing! Just a new car I need to get used too.

I noticed that when I am in first gear and finishing letting the clutch out, it feels like it is slipping
This may be your technique. Is this your first manual car? It may be slipping if you are using too much throttle and holding back on the clutch a bit too much. If you heat up the clutch too much in this manner, it may continue to slip even after your foot is off the clutch.

when I rev match upshifting
Please explain how you do this.

when I was in 2nd gear and going kind of slow, it seemed to stumble and buck a bit when I was pulling out
If you are going too slow in any gear, you will approach lugging. This can manifest itself in the bucking phenomenon. Here is a thread dedicated to that bucking thing:

This could be just a misuse of terminology. One "rev matches" a downshift, but "matches revs" on an upshift. That's why I asked him what he does when he performs this manouver.

Yes, I was referring to matching rev's when up shifting.

Sounds like it is just me and getting used to the car. This isn't my first manual car, but this is my first RWD car. I'm willing to bet all this is nothing.

I do want to change the transmission fluid and the diff fluid, but can I do this myself? I am sure it's not hard or anything, but do I need a "pump" to get out the old manual transmission fluid?

Go to the Under the Hood forum and look at the top. There, you will see a "stickied" thread entitled "FAQs ..............." In this, you will see listed all kinds of DIY threads on how to do stuff.
