Looking at buying an S2000
Hey guys I'm new to S2000's and am really looking at getting one. I just sold my RX8 for a very good price and am now in the market for another car. I have 2 friends with S2000's and they love them. I have driven both and I love the way they feel. Very tight suspension and lightweight like my RX8 so it fits me well.
Now on my my dilemma. I have have about 2 options as far as I see. Spend a good bit of money on a s2000 with less than 80k for between 10-14k, or buy one with alot of miles for 7-9k. I know that it is a honda and the motor should be good even at say 130k but I'm afraid of the drivetrain. I have heard that the rear end can just go out and that when you get to replacing things like that it can be an expensive car to work on. So what I'm saying is should I use my cash to get a new car with less miles or buy one and then put around 3k into rebuilding the motor/drivetrain. Any advice is welcomed.

Well I bought mine for 15k cash with only 30k miles on it.
You should go with a "newer" one.
Sometime down the road you might want to sell it, and listing in your seller description "replaced the rear drive train" was always a throw off to me.
... But that's just my opinion

Welcome! I would get an S2000 with low mileage. But this doesn't mean that an S2000 with higher mileage will get you in... trouble.
There are owners who take a good care of their car and also some others who won't be bothered at all to keep the S2000 as new.

Thanks guys I really appreciate it. I have to say my decision has just been reassured. One thing I was scared about leaving the rx8 was the community. RX8 club is one of the best car forums I've been apart of but I have to say s2ki seems to be pretty good. Hopefully I'll have one within a couple weeks if I can find a good deal. Yellow s2000's are just hard as mess to find!
i sold my 04 rx8 about a year ago and knew I was getting a s2k
found mine low mileage 44k for a 01 GPW.
love the s2k over the rx8. only thing i miss is the handling on the rx8 but
gas sucked as you know.go s2k as long as you dont need backseats
mods dont do shit for it. I am still involved with my local rx8 guys kelrx8
TNC !!

I just purchased my s2k so I am new to it as well...but I am surrounded by people who build sportscars so I hope they didn't steer me wrong!
It all depends on what you want in my opinion. You can find cars that are cheaper and have low mileage but those are usually the less desired or cars that are a little rough around the edges. I only wanted black or white w/red interior and wanted the ap1 chasis. I took a look at a few and they were above 10k and looked ROUGH. I ended up buying a black w black/red, hardtop, and lots of other goodies from someone who is meticulous in how he keeps his cars...that had 106k mi on it. Good luck but bottom line is I've heard and read a honda is a honda. It's more about how it was treated.
